This movie in the theater was some of the most intense I’ve EVER seen. The last 45 minutes was crazy.

The director says the reason for California and Texas working together was to be an example of Americans with 2 different ideologies working together as Americans should. Not sure how that’s confusing. In his words he’s mind blown on why people are so divided on Americans working together than the fascism they’re fighting against. I’m also glad yall laughed at the same exact moments I laughed at 😂

We talk about this in the post discussion. It makes sense that they could come together for a moment just to secede then go separate ways. We get the intention, but in today's political climate, with two states that are so opposite socio-politically, it just seems highly unlikely.
@woopimright4 ай бұрын
@@joshandcasey I understand where that comes from because of the polarized politics right now but people all around the us fight alongside each other all the time in the army, marines, navy, etc… Im optimistic that Americans when faced with terrorism will work together.Civil war is just exaggerating that idea by blatantly saying California and Texas. In reality they both work together consistently

@@joshandcasey I also thought the Cailee spaeny character wasn’t going to have her ID when they got to the shelter at the stadium but then took it after the fact of the two young girls being aware of where they are :They’re too young to be in this position and the responsibilities they now face. Even though some of the photographers seem indifferent on sides, I do believe Joel and the older black man are very open to where they stand. Joel is chatting up to the boogaloo boys, following WF into the White House and feeling anger and resentment toward the president at the end of the film. Jessie on the other hand I believe is turning into Kirsten dunsts characters mentality. The director has stated there’s a rainbowish blur that gets harsher surrounding Dunsts character to show her instability and at the end Jessie also has a rainbow blur around her.

@@joshandcasey "it just seems highly unlikely" That's the point.... It's not a political statement, it's an anti-war movie....

@@imnotac0p well also some of the interviews I’ve heard Alex garland talk about how it IS a political film and a film that talks about politics. I took California and Texas working together as a political statement. Fuck the divisiveness, when shit happens, Dems and republicans SHOULD be working together and I think it’s clear it’s pissed and upset a lot of people, which says a lot about them

@@joshandcaseythey are war press and they are documenting a historical event. Through photos and journaling in their laptops. I don’t think they have internet, it’s mainly just so there is documentation proof. So people can see, learn and not fabricate things throughout time . That’s just my educated guess on making sense of it.

The guys in the Hawaiian shirts were a nod to the Boogaloo movement. I really liked this movie. The biggest complaint I had was the Secret Service being in suits and ties and shooting 9mm submachine guns. The Secret Service are serious people with serious gear. They're trained to parachute the president out of danger in a situation like this. They would have been kitted up to the gills with military gear, not in their covert suits and ties.

You're right. I suppose they just wanted the audience to be able to distinguish who is who.
@ThATgUY-bu5yn3 ай бұрын
@joshandcasey that's part of a Civil War, though. Most of the time, you don't know who is who. That's what the sniper scene was, for I suppose. All you know is they are trying to end us, so we have to end them.

@joshandcasey I feel that would have added to the feel, tho. In a real CW. We won't have unifors and we won't know what side, the other person on. That comes in the sniper scene. They ask who they are shooting at, they said someone shooting at them.

Love the react. But despite the repeated remarks about the impracticality of using film cameras, it's worth pointing out that James Nachtwey, possibly the greatest active war photographer, still uses film cameras in his war correspondence
