I got an M1911 last year. When CMP called to say my number in line was next. I gave them a credit card and they said they would ship via UPS that day. They called back to say my card was declined as Capitol One will not do firearms sales. The Capitol One card was a CABELA'S card. So, you can but guns at Bass Pro or Cabela's but nowhere else. I cut up the card. The gun arrived at the gun store the next day. It is beautiful!

I don't understand why people are complaining about the CMP process, it's easy. Join an affiliated CMP club, fill out paperwork, print your credentials, have notarized and mail it. Simple. A person could complete that in an hour, they give you months of time to do it.

One hundred thousand 1911 .45s. That's breathtaking. Eight thousand pistols released...well it's a start. And it sure beats the horror stories I used to hear of perfect, in some cases new never issued guns being chopped for scrap at Anniston. The general public deserves a crack at these relics, not a scrap dealer at 40 bucks a ton.

My random generated number, on the first go around was 18,3++. I thought there was no way I would ever get one. 2 years and three months later, I was holding an 1945 Springfield in my hand. Yes it was $1050 but it was a good buy. Out of the box it shot a fifty cent piece, three mag group. It was cheaper than any of my milsurp rifles. It is a great piece of history.

Interesting handguns, but let me add this word of caution. If you are buying one as a historical piece, that's great. But if you intend to shoot these guns, just know that many model 1911 pistols manufactured during World War Two were manufactured in such a rush that manufacturing steps were skipped in order to get them to the front lines. WW2 guns were generally not heat treated, so the slides and frames have steel that is a bit on the soft side. Those handguns I mention were intended to have a life span of about five thousand (5,000) rounds; which was more than adequate for a sidearms that was intended to be carried by an officer during the war. But...for modern shooters....some folks will shoot 5,000 rounds in a single year for target practice. (And remember....you are buying a reworked, used handgun that might have already fired 2,000 or more rounds before you got it.

Just purchased an untouched 1944 Colt 1911 that was purchased through the NRA program that sold it for 17$. I was able to acquire the box just as it was on the day it shipped the paper work. However it was significantly more costly than the 17$ that was paid in 1961.

"Way overpriced." - A comment I see posted already.. let me save you some time. 1. They are "way overpriced" because many(not you) are willing to pay 1k.. Why should they charge less? 2. They are "way overpriced" because they are using the money to fund their program.. not get you a deal. 3. They are "way overpriced" because if they priced them cheap, you'd buy one and flip it.. Which is not their goal. This program was not designed to give bargain basement glock owners an alternative at a lower cost. It was designed to fund the CMP program. Rather than looking at this selfishly saying "WHERES MUH DISCOUNT I DUN ALREADY PAID TAXES FUR THEES!" you should be excited these are going to be in citizen hands rather than being melted down for scrap which is(I can assure you as a dealer who deals exclusively in imported military firearms) what happens to 90% of whats out there these days.

Your notice is uninformed. Any member of the public is free to join an affiliate. So yes, if a member of the public demonstrates their involvement in marksmanship activities (the core mission of the CMP) then they’re eligible to purchase. All of their firearms are checked prior to sale, you know if it is functional or not. And their prices are at or under market prices for a USGI M1911. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

If you don't want a frankengun or parts bin gun then I suggest you look at the pistols that are selected for auction . There you will find that each pistol up for auction has several photos so you know exactly what you're buying. They'll be more expensive but it'll be worth the effort. With the service, field or rack grade you get what you get. In my opinion every pistol that has a matching slide and frame should either be sent to auction or sold as service grade. The frankenguns should be sold as field or rack grade. And another thing the current service, field and rack grades might have replacement parts EXCEPT the frame. The only thing original on my CMP was the frame everything else is not original. Its very misleading when they say that the pistols may have 'SOME' commercial replacement parts.

I just thing that they could drop $200 off the price range for these old things and it would be reasonable. Ya, I'm just going to go buy another new one down at my local store and save the brain damage. I don't need a piece of history that may not have been anything exciting.

You should watch the video in full. They explain they are selling them to fund their program. If people are willing to pay 1k, why should they charge less? They also do not want people buying these to flip them, so they have to be at a price that's below market but not too much so.

Yes these are priced between $800 - $1100 for a used 1911. For history, or bragging that may be fine. I purchased a new Kimber 1911 for about $1000 and it is class, clean and new. I just thing that they could drop $200 off the price range for these old things and it would be reasonable. Ya, I'm just going to go buy another new one down at my local store and save the brain damage. I don't need a piece of history that may not have been anything exciting.

@@NOLAGent1 Yeah if you are willing to pay $1500-2000 for one of them. In today’s surplus market people are asking $750 for a Yugo Mauser. What decent price would you expect for any of these guns? I already have a 1911 45 so I care less.

I can't understand why anyone would pay CMP prices for a used gun when a brand new 1911 sells for much less. 1,100 bucks is theft for a service grade firearm. Hell a brand new Kimber sells for less and includes two mags.
