I remember that gun so well, in Mexico we did something similar but with a 5.56 and similar hardware to the G36 but with an uncomfortable wire stock. That thing is or was supposed to be able to be fired from inside a vehicle but I think it would murder anyone's ears if used that way. I haven't seen it in person so I doubt it was adopted and I hope it wasn't.

A charging handle connected to the rifle is simpler, often more robust in hard use, and doesn't require an additional forward assist. FNH wasn't given a bad requirement, as such handles have been used on many successful rifles, like the AK and it's variants (or the AR18). However, they didn't work on ergonomics enough before release, hence the complaints.

I hope in this patch, there will be suspects with heavy body armor which facilitates the use of battle rifles. Also, short barrel should have a pseudo flashbang effect due to loud noise of the gunshot. I am also hoping that some missions will feature suspects with more machine guns such as M249, M240, PKM and MG3. But of course, the rules of engagement may need to be changed.

I've shot an HK51 clone on full auto and it's a blast. It's a high recoiling rapid fire flashbang dispenser with the ballistic effectiveness of a supersonic 300blk. I love it. I never expected to see it in a game like this but I can't wait to try it.

The M14 was not produced as an upgrade to the M1 Garand. It was made to fulfill a contract for a magazine-fed automatic weapon for the US Army, who gave Springfield the contract on two principle factors: Cost, and pedigree. The procurement office preferred Springfield because they'd been the primary supplier of infantry small arms for a long, long time, and they insisted they could convert the vast stocks of Garands to a modern magazine-fed weapon, while at the same time using a lot of the existing tooling and expertice.

The M1 Garand was a front line Infantry rifle and the M1 Carbine was designed to replace the pistol in the hands of 2nd line troops (mortarmen, cooks, etc). The only relation of the M14 to the M1 Carbine was the US Army wanted to replace the M1 Garand (rifle), M1 Carbine (carbine), M3 Grease Gun (smg), and BAR (automatic rifle) with a single weapon system (M14). Replacing everything with one weapon system, much less a full-power 30cal system, was of course a fool's errand. The M14 (T44 during trials) went up against the FAL (T48), and the T44 won being the US design vs foreign design, being lighter with fewer parts, being similar to the M1 Garand for training/re-training purposes, and supposedly being able to utilize old Garand tooling and expertise for manufacture (which turned out to generally be false).

It might be thrown in with penetration, but another use case for full-power cartridges is vehicles. It doesn't take much to pop a tire, break a window, or even penetrate car panels, but wheels, axles, engine blocks, and sometimes parts of the frame can slow a bullet or change its trajectory if hid behind, and are mostly decent places to aim to try to disable a vehicle. I have once heard but cannot verify that the HK51/MC51, as equally horrific and alluring as it is (being a G3 cut down to the size of an MP5), was designed/modified to, among other things, fire from within a vehicle, at another vehicle. Perhaps that information was a distortion of simply being intended to be a gun for a vehicle crew to stow away until rifle-grade penetration in an SMG-sized package would be needed... which means that the HK51/MC51 is technically a PDW in .308.

one of my favorite parts of this game is reading the briefing and preparing my loadout accordingly. Hopefully they can further tune body armor usage to enhance that feeling. also, I think they should add civilians that will pull out weapons either to fight enemies or the swat present, as people in America carrying weapons would be likely to do if they feel threatened. perhaps this can be tied to the morale system so that if you shoot too many civilians, the next ones will attempt to defend themselves

It should be mentioned that the HK51 has a massive concussion, especially with any recoil reducing muzzle device (be it compensator, muzzle break, or barrel ports) fitted. If fired indoors it has an absolutely blinding muzzle flash, once again magnified by common recoil reduction measures.

correction. Before moving to SPAIN to work at CETME, captured Mauser engineers were working in France at CEAM. Some of'em decided to move to Spain after the French government decided to cancel the CEAM Modele 50, a rifle based upon the StG45(M) chambered in .30 Carbine. and at first the German Federal government and HK had indeed purchased a production license from CETME, and some time later they ended up purchasing the rights. Meaning that CETME no longer have rights over the rifle anymore.

The SCAR-H PR has a long monolithic upper receiver that goes over and under the gass block, leaving 2 openings on the sides only. No extra attachments needed to extend the area available for the supporting hand. Although, in my experience, it's only in semi-auto. Though I could be wrong on that

SCAR 20 NRCH addresses most of the problems the original SCAR 17 had. Non-Reciprocating charging handle, and longer upper with much more room for attachments. Can even get it with a precision stock and shorter 10 round magazines for more comfortable sniping ergonomics. Also comes with a really good trigger. The one issue the SCAR 20 NRCH doesn't address, that is arguably a significant factor that lead to the SCAR platform not being adopted as the front-runner US service rifle: The price.

The battle rifle slowly claws its way back to military adoption, with the US adopting the Spear, the Germans the 417, and I figure it's only a matter of time before most of Europe starts to switch to a full-power chambering for their standard service weapons, minus maybe the Brits and French, who just adopted the SR-16 by KAC. It wouldn't surprise me if Russia or China come out with a newer rifle in either 7.62x54mmR, or a similar round that's rimless, here in the near future now that open warfare against targets with body armor has come back into fashion.

Yes but it depends on the type of battle. In the open field it can give you edge but in close combat no. The g3 is 5 kilos naked and long barrell. Zero mobility in a building.Great weapon for its age, but only long range. Iv had A3s & A4s irl believe me they are heavy as hell.

@goergeathens Polymers, aluminum, and general machining prinicpals have (at least I hope) improved since the 1970s. Ballistics have improved to the point where .277 SIG from a 16in barrel is putting out .308 velocity and muzzle energy from a 22in barrel, while weighing a full kilo less than a G3, with a suppressor amd optic. Even a 13.5" barrel gives you better energy and penetration than 5.56 out of a similar length barrel. Is everyone going to get one? Not for a little while. But we've had 60+ years to improve the systems we have, and it's about damn time someone actually made the leap.

I am excited to see the SA-58 having some extra competition in the heavy duty rifle category. I enjoy the raw power and the knowledge that regardless of a suspects armor I am getting through it. The overpen is a risk but with good situational awareness is less of a concern to me than the suspect tanking my rounds thanks to body armor and getting to wound or kill one of the squad

In fairness to the m14, most of the problems people have with it also apply to, and in some cases are worse in the other two main cold war battle rifles. While the m14 is heavy, the fal and g3 are still both heavier. I also dont know if its full auto firing was actually all that more uncontrolable than the g3's or fal's. I think the m14 only gets its hate because of the its context, not the rifle itself. It was designed to be a better m1 garand, and then was thrust into an enviroment where the garand wouldve failed in too.

I had the ACR stock on my Scar 17 and it dinged up the screws on my receiver plate. Switched back to the Ugg boot stock and its fine now. I wish we got the standard looking Scar 16/Mk16 CQC and the Mk17 instead of already modified looking ones.

The battle rifles sound so immersive I have real non service related tinnitus. Also the MP5SD sound is spot on. I've never heard an in game one sound so close to the real thing. Amazing work!

Now they added the G3 that’s all I’m ever going to use. Absolutely love my G3 that I have irl. But yeah roller delayed actions usually run dirty but combine that with the fluted barrel the G3 has it makes it worse but regardless I’ve ran mine dirty as hell and they still run like champs

Those new battle riffles are so OP so satisfying to use, literally turned this game into a har mode COD. M14 recoil is not that bad and definitely manageable if you have any competitive FPS game backgrounds. I literally solo speed ran all the Darker Waters maps with ease with those guns.

It's amazing to see that as militaries become more modern, the small arms have become 'weaker' - as in firing smaller caliber bullets compared to those in the two World Wars. What we in the modern times call a 'battle rifle' was known as your regular run-of-the-mill rifle back in the old days, and what they deemed as a carbine is normally considered a full-length rifle nowadays. Even the guns of the Wild West hit harder than modern 'assault' rifles because the bullets were simply bigger. Example: 30-30 rifle has a significantly higher chance to drop a target in a single shot, compared to the modern 5.56 NATO.

The delayed blowback roller system is not "simple" at all and it's one of the most complex systems ever seen in a gun BUT, it was retained for it's usefulness. Due to it lacking normal pistons, its delay blowback dampens recoil a little bit thus making shooting more pleasant. With that being said, the cost to maintain the guns is way more expensive than using normal piston guns as every other gun manufacturers are using piston or DI systems whereas only CETME and H&K are using roller delayed blowbacks thus the cost of maintenance of the guns are extremely high. Regardless of that, the system still proved to be very accurate when needed be it in semi-auto or full-auto plus with its very smooth operation, it became well loved, especially the miniature form of the G3 which would become the MP5 that fires 9x19mm.
