I think the reason you can’t build the garden on the desert is bc urban buildings have to grow out from the urban center, just like rural districts have to be connected to other rural districts

31:31 the reason why you can't build the Garden there is because all urban buildings have to be connected to the urban center by any urban buildings. There _might_ be a restriction on deserts, but the most likely reason is that the building isn't connected to the urban center by urban districts.

I do like the change that only generals get xp and abilities and not the units. This way you never feel bad about losing units besides the production cost, while before it always felt bad losing a mid to high rank unit.

31:57 No, you can build on desert. You can't build there because it's not touching your urban districts. You need to put something east of Rome to access that tile.

32:00 Its not because it couldn't be a desert. Its that urban districts must be contiguous with the central district. So your awesome adjacency spot wasn't valid till the farm next to it because urban.

I like how everything seems to matter now. Civ 6 had a lot of choices that weren't really choices (like amenities all being the same shit, and also sharing capital with everyone). plus all the random events really makes it feel like you need more thinking compared to civ 6 where you could kinda learn a mental checklist to find the optimal choice for everything (broadly speaking)

The reason you couldn't build the garden on the coastal tile is because you didn't have an existing urban tile adjacent to it. Buildings can only be built in or adjacent to existing urban tiles starting with the palace tile. It's got nothing to do with the desert. Great video though and looking forward to plenty more!

Google says Quill is right, in Civ 7, Ranged are not Infantry. But Akshully, Ranged are Infantry. All non cavalry are Infantry, Ranged are not Melee.

@quill18 you mentioned in this video that you don't have to complete the steps laid out in the military progression to complete the goal. But do you get any progression toward the goal or anything else for completing the steps? If not, then it seems like they are useless and could spread your resources in directions that don't align with your strategy for completing the goal.

The first few "steps" of the Legacy Paths seem basically advisory/tutorially. Only the ones concerned with the final total achievement (e.g. Have X Settlements) are the ones that actually award Legacy Path progression. So, for Antiquity, the goals are: Build Wonders, Get Settlements, Get Codices, Get Resources, each with 3 milestones. As such, for example, you don't NEED to ever build a Siege Unit if you don't want to. This makes sense and is a good thing - no reason to force the player to do arbitrary things (e.g. if I can conquer cities with just infantry/range, don't FORCE me to build a siege unit just to tick a box).
