Oda Nobunaga (1534 - 1582 AD) was a 16th century Japanese warlord. Both a brilliant general and a cunning politician - as well as an early adopter of new technology - Nobunaga fought and backstabbed his way to domination over nearly half of feudal Japan. His two lieutenants, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu, would complete the job after his death, reunifying Japan for the first time in over a century.

What's funny about their choosing Nobunaga, given the Samurai special unit, is that he was specifically successful because he armed peasants with muskets rather than sticking to tradition. That is one of the key reasons he was so successful.

I was playing on deity last night. I always struggle with science but I got HG so I was pumped for all the growth. I only had two neighbors: Darius and Oda. Oda and I had made two declarations of friendship and I wasn't too worried about Darius because he almost always proves to be a loyal ally to me. I notice a couple Japanese swordsmen but I disregard them. And then Oda backstabbed me. I had a single spearman (facepalm) against an entire siege force. And it looks like he's going to take my second city. The moral of the story is to never trust this SOB.

@thunder230mph6
@thunder230mph6 8 жыл бұрын
Rumia Scarlet If that's an odachi, then it shouldn't be on his hip, samurai often strapped these swords on their backs as they were far too heavy to be carried at their side. Also, yes, they were only really good as weapons for mounted warriors, not so much for foot soldiers as they were nearly impossible to draw properly due to their size when needed. In fact, I have just now noticed that Oda has another sword on his back, so the one at his side should have been there as well.

Why does everyone prefer Meiji to Nobunaga? Meiji was a tyrant who wanted to destroy Japan's culture and also failed at invading china. Nobunaga was the famous samurai ever and ended the most important war in Japan's history.
@kaijuslayer3334
@kaijuslayer3334 4 жыл бұрын
Temujin Meiji saves Japan from being conquered or falling to the same fate as China. He never destroyed Japanese culture. He integrated it with the culture of the west. And Meiji did conquer Korea and won the Sino-Japanese war. Taking parts of China. Nobunaga was also a huge tyrant. Quite known for his ruthlessness and rarely ever tried to unite the country with anything but war. There’s a story about a monk who went around Japan and asked 3 Daimyo what to do if the birds stopped singing, one said kill them all, one said make them sing, and another said wait for them to sing. Guess who said to kill them all? Nobunaga. So even if you do classify Meiji as a tyrant. Nobunaga was definitely equal, if not worse

@@kaijuslayer3334 I agree. I've watched a Netflix Original: "Age of Samurai: Battle of Japan"; based on how I watched it, it gave me an informative background on Nobunaga and his campaigns during his conquest of Central Japan. It's true that Nobunaga has done things that are very much brutal and unforgiving, despite his prosperous achievements in conquering his foes. He, in no doubt, conquered his enemies and gained control of Central Japan, and absolutely, he was the first person to acquire the arquebus, which no other daimyo was to ever obtain. He was, indeed, a formidable ruler with a powerful weapon; however, that sheer weapon that brought life to his successes caused unease to the people, especially to his closest generals. From what I watched in the documentary, it was stated that Nobunaga sought the destruction of the Buddhist monks for opposing him, so with his power, he brought them to shame-no mercy as he reckoned. He slaughtered what's left of that monastery, whether those who wish not to partake in the cause-be it men, women, the elderly, or children. In some accounts from the historians, it was been said that a peasant's daughter has been beheaded; even the Nobunaga has been able to witness it all as he sat down and gave out his command. Due to this act of tyranny, neighboring fiefs have opposed to his rule. Indeed, he is powerful, but his warmongering motives brought more opposition to his rule as many families resorted to guerilla warfare. Personally, I could see this as something unconstitutional, those perks of a tyrant. But admirably, his successes won't be forgotten, as well as his dysphoric background that brought him to it.

Yeah apparently Japan was very isolated. So USA sorta was like, if you dont open to trade with us, we will invade you. So they sent students to Europe, came back and modernized and industrialized Japan. Kinda interesting. Also religious freedom was increased during Meiji era too.

The Korean empire's official symbol which I mention was plumtree flower(오얏꽃). by the way, disigners of civ5 must intend sakura, not Korean flower.
