It shows Hitler as under strain as the war goes from bad to worse, Goering as knowing they're going to lose but unwilling to burst Hitler’s bubble, Himmler as being ressy to kill you as soon as look at you, Goebbels and Speer as sharp operators who suspicious of everyone and Keitel as a buffoon who tries to impress Hitlerby making others look bad.

A negotiated peace would never have worked.The reason WW2 happened was because Germany talked its way out of occupation after WW1.

There is a story from Speers book where he claims that after an incident where Hitler was screaming at Goering for his incompetents, Speer asked him if maybe they should just replace Goering with a more capable Luftwaffe General. Hitler apparently replied that he couldnt do that because "the party would never understand my motives" for kicking him out.
