I love that the road was instantly built. I'm getting very natural growth vibes with all the new mechanics; rural districts and moving people, all cities becoming towns when you age up. The thought seems to have really gone into this game, narratively and mechanically.

Regarding doom stacks - it is the feature that absolutely turns me away from Civ IV, even though I love most of its other features. It is mostly the way it is implemented, if you will be fighting with armies, I expect at least some tactical element, ideally accounting for terrain as well. A much better way to do this can be seen in Call to Power II, where you had armies, with a limited size (I believe it was up to 12 units). There, you could have a combined army with melee and ranged units, and melee units would first attack other melee units, while at the same time ranged units would bombard. The biggest downside was that battles took too long, so most people clicked on the autoresolve button. From what I have seen in Civ VII thus far, it appears the commander feature will improve combat considerably, as commander units have some very useful traits. I believe some of these depend on civilization type and techs (or leader traits), which is even better.

Not sure how much I like the units vanishing from the map to reinforce. I like the idea of auto-reinforcing to the army but when it's off the map you lose the ability to scout and see enemy reinforcements coming or attempt to ambush them.
@woytaz13 күн бұрын
Being able to ambush enemy reinforcements is a neat idea, but either (1) you have to micro every unit of reinforcements across half the world or (2) let them walk to your army automatically, which will inevitably result in pathfinding taking them through the middle of an enemy empire and that's just unbelievably annoying. It was the same in Stellaris at first --- the reinforcements flew as normal across the galaxy to join their fleet (yes, dying stupidly on the way) --- but they changed that a while back and now Civ 7 does the same: the unit gets built, disappears for a time, and then appears at the fleet/army being reinforced. It's *immensely* more convenient and pleasant to play.
@danilooliveira658012 күн бұрын
you can still just move the unity by hand, reinforcement is just an option if you don't want to micro the reinforcement.
@haukikannel12 күн бұрын

Here's the thing: I love having 6,000 cities. No, like, actually 6,000. Or more. How many hexes are on the map? Let's just make every one of those a city. ...obviously that's hyperbole, no city would actually function in that case. But I want to put down a full, proper, micromanagement-intensive city in every location that reasonably can support one. I want to conquer, consume, and convert every opposing city that draws my army's attention. I want the entire map to be dotted with my cities. Not five cities and a bunch of "towns" or "districts" or "sectors" or "outposts" or whatever other terminology the game in question decides to throw around. Settlement limits are not fun for me. Not everybody is the same. A lot of people have this entirely inconceivable-to-me desire to "play tall." I have no problem with that being an option for a game. You want to have just a single city and win the game that way? Be my guest. But please stop trying to bury my fun under settlement limits because somehow I'm "not supposed to" play that way.

Quill I'd love to hear your thoughts on how videos like this are ruining the video game enjoyment of so many people. I'm obviously not trying to keep you from doing your thing, but I strongly believe that peoples' inability/unwillingness to play games blind is a huge reason why many people feel burnt out on games after 2 playthroughs. I think people shouldn't watch any video like this (if you need to make sure the game is playable then a light review is probably reasonable) but in-depth videos of existing mechanics, do this, do that, here's all this and that, makes the game feel bland, not a wonderful exciting new thing to be experienced and enjoyed. If you want to support Quill leave the video on while you're in the shower, give him a 'view' but play the game for yourself. If you watched a video about Mario 64 before it released, you wouldn't have the fond memories you do now. Honestly not trying to bring you down Quill, but this is actually important if people want to enjoy games again. Take care.

I know it's not your fault, but just another screw up by Firaxis marketing team. It's really not a great experience to watch you being forced to rush through gameplay. I did not finish this video and I'm not sure at this point if I will watch rest of this series. There is no way to comfortably get any information from it in this form. Idea to limit youtubers by time in a turn-based strategy game was the most braindead idea someone could make. From first video I gather you will still be able to give us some more relaxed/usual play-through closer to release. I'm looking forward to it. I commented on one of your Beyond Earth videos, that I'm currently alienated by this game and you're the last chance to convince me back to idea of buying it. In case of few games in recent years you were my main source of knowledge if game will fit my needs. But because of the above this series is not it. It's not your style of presenting a game. You're forced here to do it Firaxis style.
