When you combine a curse of a petty dwarf with the oath of a violent elf, it hinders the Children of Iluvatar and aids Morgoth's warpath to vanquish Beleriand's finest heroes

In the end, Mim had his vengeance. Doriath, the greatest realm of the Sindar, the people that nearly led his people to extinction, was sacked and left in ruins. And the descendants of the Dwarves that banished his ancestors that took the Nauglamir were hunted down by the Elves, just like Mim's people were. It is ironic that there was so much suffering and tragedy detailed in this video, and yet Morgoth, the epitome of evil in Tolkien lore, played little to none role in it, at least directly.

That wasn't the end, the Nauglamir was lost but that Silmaril was recovered by Ulmo, who then gave it to Earendil, so it did end up in the sky with him.

Excellent video. Where is it actually written that the petty dwarves migrated from the far East and that they were hunted by Elves? A version of the Children of Húrin or The History of Middle-Earth series?
@CivilizationEx
@CivilizationEx 3 жыл бұрын
It's from the Silmarillion: "For Mîm came of Dwarves that were banished in ancient days from the great Dwarf-cities of the east..." "Before the Dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost came west over the mountains the Elves of Beleriand knew not what these others were, and they hunted them, and slew them; but afterwards they let them alone, and they were called Noegyth Nibin, the Petty-Dwarves, in the Sindarin tongue."

They were not small in their beginning, they shrank when Aule tried to destroy them.
@CivilizationEx
@CivilizationEx 3 жыл бұрын
The Silmarillion states they shrank from Aule's hammer in fear, but as far as I know that doesn't mean they physically diminished in size. I thought it meant they simply ducked low and bowed their heads. I've never heard or read anywhere that it meant they became smaller. Do you have some source for that? Here is the quote: "...and the Dwarves shrank from the hammer and were afraid, and they bowed down their heads and begged for mercy."

"Mim gained a small following" A small following comprised of which race/s? As Mim is the last petty dwarf, it couldn't have been other petty dwarves, and I doubt elves or dwarves would follow him.
@CivilizationEx
@CivilizationEx 3 жыл бұрын
That part is not completely clear cause it comes from Tolkien's alternative versions of the story, where he expands on what we know. But he mentions it was the lowly people who lived in the area, mainly orcs and fallen elves, but possibly some dwarves and primitive humans too.
@xShadowsaur
@xShadowsaur 3 жыл бұрын
@@CivilizationEx Ah, a reply from the illustrious CivilizationEx! Thank you for answering my question as best as one can! I imagine that the most likely would be primitive humans, especially with the theory that orcs may have slain Ibun would likely remove the chance for Mim to work them willingly. Additionally, I can't imagine with his hatred he'd want to work with even fallen Elves, nor do I think Dwarves would want to associate with him. But, of course, this is all just speculation. Thanks agian!

@CivilizationEx
@CivilizationEx 2 жыл бұрын
@@ByzantineDarkwraith Yes he did, many of the Elves captured over the years eventually fell to Melkor's corruption. Originally that meant being turned into orcs, but later those Elves were used as spies, infiltrators and informants. It was still rare, but by no means unheard of. Maeglin of Gondolin is an example.
