I think it's a great minimalist multi-tool. Having a knife, prybar, bottle opener and a screwdriver that open one-handed easily is outstanding in my opinion. I love the look and feel of the micarta as well. I see a lot of potential with this double flipper design as well.

Companies have been trying to make "SAK killers" for almost a century at this point, from the cheap clones of South East Asia to the modern competitors from Böker and Swiza. It's never going to happen, nobody else has the winning combination of experience and ingenuity that Victorinox (and formerly Wenger) have at making pocket knives and multitools. Plus there's the brand recognition; everyone knows what a Swiss Army Knife is and what they look like. They come in all shapes and sizes, there's one for every situation, and you'd be hard pressed to offend someone with a SAK. I like that there's other companies experimenting with multitools to drive innovation but for me Victorinox will always have the best pocket knife and Leatherman will always have the best plier multitool.
@traviswrigg51582 жыл бұрын
I think Victorinox works mostly in the field of brand recognition. I'm always keeping my eye out for new tools in that format becaues it annoys me that their blade steel still competes with a Swiss Toblerone for edge retention

I work at a bike shop, and the multitool is incredibly invaluable. Most bikes work on 4, 5, and 6mm hex bolts, which means I can slide the wrenches through the spanner holes and get a tonne of extra leverage when loosening stuck bolts or when I'm having to use a long t-handle in an awkward space that would otherwise be a single-handed slog.

Wow! "Critical." Good to have a knife reviewer who can honestly say "no" to a major knife maker. At Civivi's knife channel, I suggested that the "Crit" also have tweezers like they've included in their new "Relic", but now the "Crit"'s going to need more than tweezers to pull it through. LOL. Instead of "Crit" for "Critter", it's "Crit" for "Critical".
@TheKnifeBeater2 жыл бұрын
Lol! Well said. Yeah, it might be why I don't get very many knives sent to me by manufacturers.

Victorinox killer? Definitely never. But if Civivi really desires it can develop some well-done multitools to complete a swiss army - as long as price is right.

Yeah, they would definitely have to come down in price.

I think it's nice to look at (the micarta was definitely the way to go) but other than being easier to open I could not see replacing my Swiss army knife with it. Not "multi" enough in the tool department. Let's hope that feedback will make its next iteration a little more practical. Thank you Jay. Always on point.

Victorinox knives are my multi-purpose knife of choice. But that being said, I could see this civivi being useful if a person wanted to keep it in the center console of their vehicle for a "just in case" sort of tool. Small hex wrench, seat belt cutter, etc. I just don't see it as something I would carry in my pocket every day. Cheers, Jay.

Interesting, but yeah not there yet... I am always puzzled by the face that no Victorinox in the 93 and 91 size comes with a one hand open blade... For the 91 that would probably imply some design changes due to the back tools, but on the pioneer it would be... Easy done! And then it would be a 100% perfect knife. Nice video, btw!

Mine is great, but I’d be wary about how you carry it. Mine opened in my pocket and cut my uniform pants open. Luckily it cut away from my leg instead of towards. I’ll carry it in my work bag or in a belt sheath but absolutely will not pocket carry it anymore. But carry aside it’s an awesome knife. It’s just too bad that ONE thing is a hinderance. It’s the first knife in 20+ years that’s ever opened in my pocket.

My first impression is all of the bulk without all of the utility as normal multitools. I almost always carry a leatherman though so this isn’t something I’d really be interested in anyways. The tools I use the most are the Phillips screwdriver, the pliers and the eyeglass screwdriver, this has none of those. I’ve also never ever needed a flat hex driver as I always have a socket set in my car garage and house, and if I do, the pliers will take care of it. Good review, pass on the multitool =)

I first saw this in a smkw catalog just the other day and did a double take when I realized it was a multi-tool. But the longer I looked the more disappointed I was. Victorinox killer?!? Hahaha hahaha 😆 Nope. Quick access combined blade and prybar and package/cord cutter... sure! Would save you from needing to carry a separate prybar. I also wouldn't pry hard with it while holding the handle but light prying while choked up on the bar I'd think would work fine. The one thing it can do that most Victorinox can't... is work as a oxygen wrench. So there is that. If your job requires measuring short less than 3 inch measurements all day... it could also be handy.
