I'm no swing doctor - just putting that out there. So, I took a look at his swing. And it reminded me of another left hand hitter. Joe Mauer. Joe had a classic inside out swing. He had the ability and has got the barrel out front for hits - because he's a skilled hitter and can adjust to pitches. But he almost always went with that classic inside out swing. We're on youtube, go check it out. When watching CJ, it's a little different. Both lefties. Both knuckle knockers. But I think, the difference is that CJ opens his swing up right before contact. That allows him to stay inside out so pitchers aren't going to blow fastballs by him. But if he recognizes something off speed, he can lower the boom (getting the barrel back out front). He seems t have more extension after contact as well. Some would say that Joe's swing took a lot of power out of his 6 foot 4 frame. Who knows. This kid's swing might have the best of both worlds, and as he matures, we might be looking at something special in the box. Some have said he's a little behind in fielding. I didn't see it. Again, not a fielding guru. However, I did get to watch a few of the 2019 draftees play infield. I'd put him middle upper middle of the pack. For example, Keoni Cavaco looked the part already. I don't think he's where Keoni is. That said, their introductory year in pro baseball is over. And CJ was amazing. Far better in the box than Keoni. I'm a believer. Go CJ!

Padres could be the next dynasty. 3 headed monster on offense with Tatis, Machado & this young stud CJ Abrams.

Hope this kid does well. But sometimes you just never know with these top prospects. For all we know he could end up being Byron Buxton or Cameron Maybin who were themselves former top prospects as well.

Tigers should take this guy if available. They really need infield prospects.
