Isshiki had a limited lifespan that’s why he died. Their plan was to stall as long as possible before he can get kawaki

Since no one else explained it, that ability he has with the black rods and shit is called Sukunahikona, and it comes from that funky yellow eye of his; it's more brutal than it appears. Basically, it allows him to shrink himself and/or any object in his line of sight, and he can store things he shrinks in a pocket dimension where time doesn't flow. The idea Isshiki is going for with the black rods is he can either plant someone down, as you saw, but he can also send the rods into someone and then shrink them, which will leave you with gaping holes in your body that you're obviously going to lose a shit ton of blood from.

Isn't ishhiki an otsutsuki though? (Asking cos I watched the first 3 eps of Boruto and it was trash so I dropped it) I remember seeing something about Kaguya not even being that strong amongst otsutsuki. They couldn't even beat her so the fact they can even fight the others is amazing 🤷‍♂️
