@@cjfunnyfarm I also watch Blue Cactus Dairy Goats, but today I learned more about the pros and cons of disbudding than I ever have. True, watching the act of disbudding is harsh enough, let alone being the one to perform the act. At ten dollars a head (sorry for the pun), it's well worth it to not have to see or smell the event. But also throwing in the anxiety of possibly maiming or accidentally killing a beloved animal, that's a lot to go through. I agree, spending the extra money to buy sound genetics for your future herd is a good investment. I'm really liking your channel.

OMG, I am SO with you on the disbudding procedure. I HATE it. I feel like the worst person in the world and I just stay and help, my husband does the actual disbudding for me. I thought I would lose my lunch this time, my stomach hurt so bad. The crazy thing is that none of the kids react badly once they're put back on the ground!!! It amazes me every time!

I Diss - bud at one week for bucks and two weeks for does. I use a burner, ten to twelve seconds each bud. I double burn the bucks, once on the bud and half way in front of the burnt bud. Absolutely no problem. my goats are pygmies and standard milkers.

Love your farm, you guys really care about your animals and that great way of living. I learn so much from you. I’m a stage 3 breast cancer survivor and have been watching goat videos to lessen my anxiety and fear. Animals are so fearless and cope with whatever comes their way. I’m learning from them, and you too! So happy you guys are almost to 1000!!! And I’ll be another to say look at Crystals channel Blue Cactus Dairy Goats, awesome folks, awesome farm, best goats. 🐐❤️

Yes!!! Thank you!! This was my first year taking one of our bucklings to be dehorned. I battled with it researchedand since he'll be a weather in a small pen with our breeding Buck that's coming I opted to disbud. Took him to a wonderful livestock vet. It was a tough decision for me but all in all I think it was harder on me than the buckling !

Hello..... I’m a new sub to your channel..... if your looking for a good breeder that has good milking lines and they have polled bucklings and doelings I would try Crystal and Derek from Blue Cactus Dairy goats... they have a KZbin channel as well..... she also disbuds all her goats.... she takes her goats to shows as well..... they still may have a polled buckling from this kidding season available if your interested..... you can check her website it’s the same name as her KZbin channel.... they are such wonderful pple that really care for their animals..... I hoped this helped you..... and I love your channel as well .

We disbud all our Nigerians due to the fact that we show. I personally am like you, don't want to do it myself, but take them to the vet. We've used two different vets, one that puts them to sleep and one that doesn't. We normally only use the one that puts them to sleep if we've had a kid that had some health setbacks, cause you can stress a goat to death if you're careful. We are getting into the polled genetics now, it just makes it easier.
@cjfunnyfarm
@cjfunnyfarm 4 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. I never disbudded Tink because I was concerned the stress alone would be a huge set back for her. Who do you guys use as a vet? If you want to just email me that you can. I'd love to know! I'm really considering when it's time for a new buck to buy polled even if I have to spend quite a bit more money. I love my polled babies every year.

My goat has nubs where her horns are. They are really small. I had her disbudded because I know someone that had their goat got it’s horns caught in the fence and it snapped it’s neck and died. 😰 so I got my goat disbudded. My goat also lives in the house 😅

I don't know if this has been asked previously but could you put smaller chicken wire on the fence to make it harder to push heads through? Love the channel ❤
@cjfunnyfarm
@cjfunnyfarm 4 жыл бұрын
We totally could and it would probably keep them from trying. The only reason they do it now is because another goat friend shows them how to do it :)). It would just be expensive and difficult in our main pasture since it's large! But I might try that in the small weaning pen I built!!

If a vet disbursed and u ever have scurs call them and let them know and they'll fix it for free. Disbudding can be done at any time. And yes big ones have gotten stuck in the fence seen them panic and die in a short time. The bigger they are the harder it is yes u have to get all of the roots or they grow back.

Thanks for the comment! We actually have a polled baby this year (Huckleberry) whose Dam is polled, but Sire is not. Polled is the dominate trait so you only have to have one parent. To be 100% sure you get polled babies both would need to be polled, but we get about 75% polled babies out of our polled doe.

You need to learn how to do the dehorning yourself, talk to Danaill at Weed em and reep she does it to her goats and has never that she has shown had any grow back. It doesn’t take that long and to me they are way safer and so are you.
