As one of your "southern" neighbours, I love your anthem, too. This is my favourite version as well. I was introduced to it in the animated CBC signoff. Cheers from the Philadelphia area - I'm looking forward to seeing my friend from Nepean on June 5, 2009 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania!

CJOH produced YCDTOTV during the entire series run. From "Whatever Turns You On" in 1979 until the series ended in 1990 the show was credited to "Carleton Productions" although there was really no such company. From 1982 onward, Nickelodeon was a partner in the series' production given its massive success in the States on Nick. To my knowledge CTV itself had no hand in the production after "Whatever Turns You On" (the CTV network version of the show) bombed in 1979.

Great clip. Is Bill Luxton still around? He was the voice announcing 'PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS' at the beginning of the clip. Seeing the Queensway back in the days before major construction work in the mid-80's turned the road into a war zone is fascinating. I forgot how pathetic the lighting was back in those days. I remember seeing that version of 'O Canada' before the Coming Attractions at the movies and someone always asked why is the kid strangling the baby at the end?

At the time of your comment Bill was still around but retired! Sadly in 2019 Bill passed away suddenly when he drowned in his swimming pool! RIP Bill Luxton

I don't know if you heard, but the newsroom and a bunch of footage was lost in a fire. I think we should try to gather up footage for them to see if we can help them. I'm from Watertown, NY, but I loved watching it and still do.

Maybe people should dig through their old VHS tapes and see if the have any old CJOH footage?

Hmmm-so the newer "you can't do that on television", in late 80's, which aired on YTV Canada were *also* produced by CTV/Baton brodcasting? Or did Corus produce them? (since it DID air on a different channel)
@CelesteKTheNewWaveRevue7 жыл бұрын
Roger Price produced it for CTV/YTV. All of the earlier episodes of YCDTOTV that were taped at the CJOH studios were probably lost when the CJOH building caught on fire in 2008.

The announcer for the sign off is probably Les Lye .
@michaelmoore14414 жыл бұрын
The first announcer (program highlights) was Bill Luxton, who did partner with Les Lye for various projects including Willy & Floyd. I'm not sure who the second announcer was but it wasn't Les Lye.

@@michaelmoore1441 Oh. I was wondering who it is, since I like the voice of the announcer who announced the sign off, as well as ident.

The late Frank Sassin was the next voice who did the sign off in that clip

One word... "infomercials." Stations figured out they could make boatloads of money with paid programming. It's all about the bottom line, and infomercials make the station money even if no one is watching.

Well at least the early 1980s version of the coverage area map is more accurate than today's version. At least the cities are in their correct positions on the map :). The coverage area for CJOH-6 isn't depicted accurately though. The signal goes as far west as the Cobourg/Port Hope and Peterborough areas.

If you're wondering who the announcer was at 0:12, it was Bill Luxton.
