I used Philips Pentura LED strips at home. No need for separate drivers, so no need to find a home for the driver. You can't cut them to length, but they are available in a range of lengths and just plug together to create whatever length you need. Very quick to install.
@alantorrance6153
@alantorrance6153 4 жыл бұрын
Suggestion:- At 18:56 Position of driver for LED lights. Why place it on the surface of the shelf, especially with its width down flat. If it needs to be on the shelf, why not affix it so that the narrow edge is down on the shelf -- that way it would take up a bit less extremely valuable shelf space. Even better, mount upside down underneath shelf above where you have it (but would need a little more cable length). Even better, mount underneath that shelf in the open cavity -- at rear, at same vertical height as the LEDs themselves. Would not be seen probably, as below head height, and does not take up any cupboard shelf space at all. Do not contribute to the hell in the "Flat from Hell".

Really top work here. Considering the challenge of working around the "finished" kitchen/bathroom. The extractor hood should really have been vented outside however. The fan won't do anything blowing into a closed cupboard as the back pressure will build up and be too high for it to work.

I went to a break down at a dairy shed once. There was a company in the area upgrading switchboards for a ridiculously low price. 3 Rows of 15 MCBs. One phase per row. Majority of the breakers in the centre were all burnt and black at the bottom terminal where the bus bar was. They had forgotten to tighten up all the terminals in the middle of the rows. Had to replace all the damaged breakers. Not cheaper when you have to pay for a job to be done twice. Cheap, fast or right. Pick two because you can't have all three.

The door that swings down ‘IS THE METAL MESH FILTER’ I have one of those (in cupboard) filter hoods but I also have it vented by pipe out to the exterior. You take off the door and bang it through the dishwasher to clean the ‘filter’. They are not the best cooker hood but they are good for confined space kitchens that have no room for a big fancy hood. IT DEFINITELY NEEDS VENTING TO THE EXTERIOR THOUGH!!!!!!

Have some close fitting insulating capsules to press down the cables over them before screwing into the receptors, to limit live exposure. Colour? A piece of LED tape works wonders if you have to restore the back light for an LCD display on an old CD player etc... note that some of these may have had amber/brown characters on dark background which is done by udervoltaged miniature incandescent bulbs and often blue masking where the energized characters pass nearly all available light. In such a case, I ended up with white characters on blue background but the client was more than happy with that.

Just a thought, but have you considered microwave sensors instead of PIR? I'm just thinking that, in a cupboard, the owner might stack things blocking the line of sight of the PIR which would make it less effective, but microwave would go through most obstacles. Also, depending on how you set the sensitivity, they'll have the light on before the cupboard door is even open. I have one in my hallway and landing and the light will come on before I even open the door. The least sensitive setting only reacts about a meter away.

Great video, I really enjoy watching them, but I think you didn't use the RJ45/UTP cabel tester correctly. The LEDs on the main box flash no matter what (even with cable disconnected) in sequence, or manually by button press, then you have to check actually on the other (terminator) side, to see if all the LEDs there are lighting up the same as on the main box, they should be in sequence aswell to see if you wire each pair correctly (or not in sync for crossed cables, which are not commonly used, except for PC to PC connection). Only few of these boxes allow you to check the LEDs on the same (main) side, when you connect the terminator, it shorts each pair, so you can check on the main side not single wire but each pair.

5 жыл бұрын
@@UKIP Yes I agree, thats why I said they are not commonly used. But believe it or not, I still come across them from time to time, so I just pointed that out, that in case the LEDs don't flash in sequence it is not necessarily a fault, but the person would actually have to know how they are crossed (orange with green striped/solid stay the same and blue with brown with striped/solid switched) to determine if it's a fault (incorrectly wired into the connector) or if it's normal.

I recently went into a maisonette in Leamington, where some tool of Eastern European origin, wired part of the dwelling connecting kitchen and hallway lighting to sockets. All the blue conductors in the consumer board were in the mcb's, brown in the neutral bar! Stripped back some of the walls to find rogue connections to switches made with 2.5mm cable! 1mm cable connecting kitchen appliances! I kid you not, check out my Facebook page at ades-cov, I've posted a video on it. I had to literally rewire half the dwelling, (mainly due to the young lady's budget). Some guy recommended by a family friend apparently! No credentials, no profile of jobs done. Connected a 7 2kw hob to the back of a socket hanging off loose, behind the oven which was plugged in. How the place didn't go up, is beyond me. So it gives me some degree of satisfaction knowing that there's those on here, that do it right. Great videos, thankyou.

Happens all the time. I recently rewired a family place that had been "sort of made safe" by an electrician back in 1991 but really needed a full rewire. In the walls I found some of the crap they'd disconnected back in the 90s - utterly priceless! Italian 10 amp sockets wired with 0.3 mm flex plastered into the walls, 0.5 mm solid wire posing as 1.5 (very thick insulation) feeding sockets - some of that was actually still in use until earlier this year, on a 16 amp MCB, etc.! The way they ran the wires made me suspect some Italian cowboys after several bottles of Grappa! No idea how old the work was, the only part I could kind-of pin down was the pseudo-1.5 mm, probably done in 1960 judging by the newspapers stuffed into some of the holes to save on plaster.

Nice job. Where did you get the LED diffuser channel? I recently replaced some 5050 strips because over a couple of years they lost over half of their light output.

You're using the network tester wrong. The big unit sends the signal. The lights are just telling you which line. You need to check the "client" end to make sure there coming through in the same pattern, eg 1-8

Exactly this. Its the non-powered end that checks you have everything connected up to spec. Also check the patch leads on the tester before you start, I've had as many faulty patch cables as I have faulty RJ45 modules!

You can also get plug in ones from B&Q. I got some reels a few years ago for a recording studio, to run under a pelmet. Just peel, stick and plug in.
