There's no polarity to the underfloor heating probe. It's simply a NTC thermistor, typically 22kΩ at 5° C, 10kΩ at 25° C and 7kΩ at 35° C.

It was showing Holiday mode, so surely you would have tried turning that off first before taking 2000 years to open up the thermostat box? And floor sensors are just temperature dependent resistors (thermistors) so they have no polarity. If you suspect a faulty thermistor, just disconnect it and measure its resistance with a multimeter. Almost all are around 10k at room temp - if it's less than 1k or more than 100k you would suspect a short or open fault.

You don't install the floor probe in a pipe/tube? We always do that because the floor thermostat life expectancy is about 7 years and all floor thermostats have their own probe and mostly you have to replace them... Oh and I see red when someone fasten anything in the mortar between the tiles... Always drill through the tile

That thermostat cable hasn't been properly terminated in the shield! Could be the cause of the problem. If it's pressed into a wire like that you might as well just don't use it. Use a metal strap or EMC gland.

Obviously, i do,nt know if you have time to answer peoples electrical problems, but I thought i would just ask, we have flickering lights, and it's not just on the two way down the stairs, it seem even in the bathroom, and on lights plugged into the wall sockets in the lounge, we had a new extension built a year ago and everything in there has its own new mini-trip board and has no probs it seems, Nothing has so far ever tripped out, can you possibly advise, sadly we are in Newark and prob way out of your area,.

just an fyi, if the floor in the bathroom has been recently added you are supposed to wait a month before turning on floor heating. if you don't, it can lead to premature failure of the material that bonds the floor tiles to the floor.

Love your attention to detail and that Towel rail installation was something else, how neat was that, but tell me you did not connect it to a Choc Connector Floating in the Metal Wall Box [I see that you Left no filming of this connection] and that you used a Fused Spur, unswitched of course for the Heater and you never relied on the 32A/20A Breaker at the Board? That Ceiling Extractor Fan seems a common practice to vent to the attic space and some have argued that if the roof has vents then this system is ok, but I think spraying moist / wet air over your trusses is never a good idea and certainly not a good long term plan. Other than the Towel Rail it does seem to me that you had a realy lucky day, looking for on/off switches and reading up on how to program the underfloor heater, every Electricians dream and the end of your filming that Consumer Unit at least from the outside looked pretty good, it appeared to have complied with current regs and was marked up, but my thoughts are that you should have opened it up and visually inspected it, taken a photo and made a comment if needed to the owner.
