Bed side on pickups is a separate panel which is NOT connected to the forward body. So this is a quarter panel since it blends into the roof pillar.

The work Kevin did to mullet is why the car went that fast with all the restrictions bound to the chasis design, now that the car is being properly built to go real fast this will become a whole new animal

It’s kinda a shame to be cutting up all that hard work. It was built to be a 7.0, maybe 6.50 car and it did that just fine. Cleet has really bad mission creep with his cars. He’d have one racing in every bracket if he could focus a car on it. McFlurry and ruby have just been collecting dust instead of running in 8.0 and 7.50 classes.

After that rework, it still ran out of adjustments in some parts and was tight on what they could do to go faster/safer. Most of that was about the stiffness as it is so long and Cleet didn't want the bars coming out of the top of the cab to the rear as it kills the look, which is fine but leads to twisting issues.

A lot of the issue with Mullet came down to the chassis getting profoundly dogfucked to turn it into a rocket car and then Kevin having to try and undo the fuckery to get it back to something workable. Was always bound to have problems with consistent traction and setup at the track because of all of that. Kevin worked miracles to get it as far as it got, but they definitely hit the ceiling of what was going to be possible as it was.

He does have big ugly tubs in the back, they just don't stick up any higher than the side of the bed. From what he described in the video, I would bet Mullet is going to sit even lower than Kamikaze, so the tubs will pretty much have to be raised. I agree that tubs sticking out of the bed would look wrong, that's why thought the camper shell might be a cool way to hide them. I bet it would improve Mullets aerodynamics too.

Don’t love the idea of tubs sticking out the rear deck or losing twin turbskis out the hood, however if speed is the priority, I believe this car is in the best hands it could be in! Hope you share all the broken chassis welds and broken parts you find from this thing running on the edge. Really glad Cleetus decided to have a chassis shop go to town on this. Something to know./remember with Mullet is that they moved the rear wheels back to support the jet engine that was supposed to mount in the back. If you shift the wheels back forward, that may help with the configuration

Well Kevin did an amazing job with the original version of mullet. To meet the needs of a KZbinr like cleetus for multiple years is a huge accomplishment. He shouldn’t doubt his ability for one second. Tye 4 linked it but that chassis was never meant to do what it has successfully done. I’m excited to see what cj does to it but its legacy has already been built on its journey so I hope everyone involved from the beginning appreciates that for what it’s worth. Keep up the good work everyone, I’ve enjoyed watching all of it.

I agree with you, up to a point! As a Career Mechanical Engineer and certified (certifiable?) gear head I can see moving the turbos to where they work best, and if that changes the "look" of the car so be it! As others have said, Mullet has kinda "evolved" over the years. Maybe starting over with a "clean slate" and making it all work together "right" will make "Mullet 2.0" as memorable as before, maybe more so?

dude it is not going to look anything like the old mullet there will be tubs up to the top of the bed they have to try and stuff 5 inches into that space. the stance will be all differebnt so the Turbos being moved will not affect the overall look of the car. It is not staying the same mullet has big problem with too much front weight bias the turbos need to go lower the engine needs to go back about 7 to 10 inches and lower. I do not care about the look if we want to see mullet go 240 plus out the back without spinning the tires than it needs to happen

Shorten the wheelbase a few inches. With the rake of the QUARTER PANEL tops moving the axle forward a bit will add tire clearance. When opening up the wheelwells just extend em forward. Enough extra clearance? Have to measure. Also: if it looks goody with too much rear overhang, shortening the rear a couple inches might not be super noticeable Just throwing out some ideas I've had in my head ever since they first figured out the wheelbase wasnt optimal a couple years ago.

In my opinion, having a one size fits all solution for the tires will be easier to work with and cleaner looking. Maybe rasing the bed cover portion up a couple inches and keeping it flat. But idk how easily feasible that is just a thought.

Hopefully he focuses on making Mullet a drag and drive build without worrying about fitting into other drag comps so much. He’s got better cars for just 1/8 and 1/4 mile races. With a proper chassis and big tires it would be nice to see a SMX back in it. Possibly even the steel front half back on it.

Agree with everyone, Dan being a good sport, and turbos being up high! That was one of Cleet’s dealbreakers with the build was making sure the turbos were visible. Along with Leroy and Ruby, who preceded it, it was a staple of the channel for the longest. Eagle is one of the few exceptions so far, the only others being supercharged applications. I will say, though, a big tire on mullet has been a long time coming. Looking forward to a proper chassis build on it as well as big tire set up. Honestly though, I bet you that thing will do fives even before they put up big tires.

Cut the quarter panel at that body line and add 2-3" strip may not need the humps for big tires. Truck quarter side panel, Danny looks great he needs some of those 90's ski glasses.

If your old school they started this chassis build for a ls and jet engine combo. Cleet had the jet engine to go and they talked him out of it. To fast to dangerous now were doing 250mph in 5 sec. How time flies.
