Suuuuuper similar knives. I would agree the Caldera is the better buy!

Yeah man I actually really love that thing.... I feel some scale mods incoming ;)

I'm not a cleaver guy, but I would choose the Caldera of the two. For whatever reason, The Sheepdog has never spoken to me, regardless of the size or deployment options. Thanks for the blattle, bro! Stay well up there.
@EEDC2 жыл бұрын
I was like you once and avoided that sheep dog but the regular size sheep dog man you gotta feel it because it's not what you think it is and I mean unless you felt that already but I've engaged it's a fantastic EDC knife for sure

@@EEDC Right on. I'll give it a check on your recommendation and let you know what I think. Have a great weekend, brother.

My caldera is a lazer beam at 12dps. Cjrb has DIALED in their rpm9 very well and to be honest 154cm vs rpm9 I would give it to the rpm9 just because or how easy the edge strops back on rpm9. You can keep an edge going on that stuff for an incredible amount of time and it's a steel that has a lot of edge stability and does really well with very shallow bevels (i sharpen as a side business and can tell a lot about a steel by how it feels on the stones) 154cm may have ten % longer edge retention but that won't hardly be noticeable and will only apply on when cutting stuff like card board.. I have cut tested a lot of Rpm9 and 154cm (on my IG) on card board and edge retention will be within 10% but where rpm9 has an advantage is in just how easily and for how long you can bring the edge back with just a plain piece of leather or even some newspaper. Another place where rpm9 is a better steel is if you plan on taking it to a high grit edge, 154cm gets slick past around 2k grit (cpm 154 gets REALLY slick lol) and really likes to be around 600 to 800g ideally and rpm9 doesn't care if it's a 240g edge or a 8000 grit edge rpm9 will not go slick (so long as you don't over strop it) I have fully mirrored rpm9 finished on 16k shapton glass and a couple passes on 0.1 micron polydiamond strop that still has great bite and is a complete mirror.. if that was 154cm it would be sharp but have absolutely zero bite. Personally in the budget world right now it's 14c28n as number 1 and CJRB rpm9 as number 2. And I have no doubt if you ask any professional sharpener they would agree with me. Well don't 9cr is excellent but whatever they have done to the alloy in thr powdering process made rpm9 vastly better then ingot 9cr (if both are done with a optimum heat treat and temler protocol). I know this was a fairly long post, just trying to help out anyone wondering about rpm9, it's a excellent steel plain and simple.

I believe the lack of texture on the clip is an attempt, successful if you ask me, to introduce a little variety into the finish, i.e. the design, that is otherwise pretty uniform! That is usually considered to be a GOOD thing. The old cliché that designers “want to make everything match” is not true! What designers do is create variety, i.e. INTEREST, that WORKS. I think WE did a very good job of it!

I would like the Caldera a lot more if the handle/scales looked different. Not feeling the bright red, blue, etc. Gray G10, or all blacked out, or a micarta overlay and I'd be way more into it. LOVE the blade on it though!
@EEDC2 жыл бұрын
Ya I agree bro since I'm keeping it I'm going to try Grey (like dark) or black for the overlay when I get to it I'll show a vid! Black would look cool I think with the red accents but as it stands to much color lol

I'll be honest, clever style blades have never been my thing. But the CJRB just looks like it would be a better knife. Just seems like a clever that isn't a clever at the same time.
@EEDC2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think classifying it as a clever which I have done several times probably isn't the accurate classification but does have that tall face so maybe maybe not I don't know but in hand it doesn't feel like a clever it definitely feels like a slicer when you're using it too so a lot of kudos to that thing thanks for watch brother

I don't think you'll be disappointed man if the point of man if you like the clevery style and it's ultra slice and in hand I think it does feel pretty d*** good so I'm excited to hear what you think about it

Cjrb handle and steel are a little hard to like. I like the blade shape.
@EEDC2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah bro CJR b's have come come to a mixture of best Tech and Tech ends off grid knives in my opinion they're kind of like a mixture of the 2 maybe slap in a little bit of concept or Kaiser but I Do enjoy this one quite a bit and it's been a while since I actually released a model that's exciting you know what I mean

Yeah but HOW much better ya know? I try to treat the steel as only one part of how I compare em... I'm sure if someone else compared em they might have the same conclusion you do
