I *never* thought unlanded play was gonna be a thing, and to be honest, I had reasons to hope it was gonna stay away. But to be honest, the pitch they've given, and it being in conjunction with an imperial rework, I'm starting to think I was wrong to be worried. I'm cautiously optimistic about it, but a *whole* lot more optimistic than I once was about the prospect.

I've been frustrated by how Crusade mechanics always seem to depend on decisions made by rulers back in the homeland, but in real life it was those actually present in the Holy Land making the decisions. Hopefully, we can see that more faithfully represented with these new systems.

Don't know how far the new expansion will go but the dream for portraying medieval life more accurately would be the broad ability to decouple land 'ownership' from land 'rulership'. Not only to simulate Byzantium (which the expansion will do) but centralised realms more generally, but such a system could allow the game to simulate lord/vassal relationships like the duchy of Normandy, or Scottish lords holding land in England etc. 🤞

I hope we'll eventually be able to be vassals to multiple overlords through different titles, like how the late medieval Dukes of Burgundy were vassals to both the King of France (as Dukes of Burgundy, counts of flanders, etc.) and the Holy roman Emperor (as dukes of Brabant, counts of Holland, etc.) or how the Plantagenet kings of England were vassals to France as counts of Anjou, dukes of Normandy, and dukes of Aquitaine.

@@Torag55 you can play as a landless knight currently in non Ironman games, start as their liege, give them a title, then switch over to them. As far as I know there's no way to play them currently in Ironman tho.

This chapter 3 update is making me believe that the future trade update will definitely be marco polo themed. I feel like the introduction of the table and the landless feature is definitely leaning that way. Famous figures of the Medieval world that weren’t necessarily landed characters. Being able to play Hrolfr “Rollo” de Normandie, Rodrigo “El Cid” de Vivar, or any of the unlanded characters with insane claims/historical flavor just opens the game to so many opportunities for the future. I can’t wait. 😭

I think the "Heirs of David" legitimising legend is specific to just 2 dynasties in CK3; the Solomonids in Ethiopia, and the Bagratids in Georgia - this may potentially be a hint of just how many of these legends there will be.

Most of Georgians believe that to this day and is part of the reason there still is a sizable monarchist restoration movement after 200 years since the last reigning Bagration.

Oh wow, I thought I couldn't get more excited about this years packs and it just hit me when you were talking about mods. Can you imagine with the LoTR mod can do with landless characters!? This year is going to be so good, I am hyped for it all. I never would have expected landless gameplay and until the announcement this afternoon, I didn't see the appeal. The legends thing seems to be founded on the bloodlines mechanic but go way beyond

I feel unlanded mechanics combined with the traveling mechanics could be great for hordes. Having something like a traveling barony that you can go from county to county with your horde and stopping in counties with holdings could increase income from trade but annoy the local ruler but give opportunities to extract tribute or increase opinion if they are your vassal. Also using control as an authority type thing where your horde would raid the local county or counties bringing you wealth but again annoying the local ruler if you have low control and higher trade and opinion if you have high control. Something similar to how total war attila handled hordes. It would add a really different kind of gameplay to the the rest of the government types

Legends and landless adventurers sound like a great combination to start a dynasty! Hopefully we can start this way. Legitimacy and the Byzantine administration stuff also seems like a great foundation for the China expansion that has been occasionally teased - but I wonder if the "table" graphics teased here wouldn't complicate that. I kind of suspect that it'll just be decorations added to the "table" we've already got.

The coolest thing they could do is I know this sounds dumb but in wandering nobles with voyager or seafarer or whatever you find American land and claim some on a new map so like what happens is not a map upgrade just a loading screen and then your in a new map that is probally Central America mostly cause that’s where most well people were.

Conceptually legitimacy and prestige sounds really similar. Legitimacy as an extra mechanic would make sense if it was tied to titles (a legendary, prestigious king would still not have legitimate claim to another kingdom), but if it is a persistent trait of the realm or of the person, then how exactly can the subjects of a king see their (rightful) liege as prestigious but not legitimate?

Everyone is up in arms about GoT/Elder Kings and unlanded gamplay but my first thought is... this is going to be awesome for the Princes of Darkness Mod. Elder Kings and GoT *work* within the feudal inheritance of CK3, but it never really made sense for vampires. Playing as a wandering vampire, using the Byzantine mechanics where your estate, or "lair" is your focus until you can secure a princedom, is going to improve the mod so much. Inheriting a princedom from your sire never made sense within the lore, but they worked with existing CK mechanics and kind of made it work. But byzantine scheeming for appointments would be SO much more thematic, with you going landless when you die and your childer having to start from scratch unless you already landed them. It also gives those landless 4000-year old vampires a chance to get back on top after being conquered instead of serving as the knight for some 67-year old 9th generation who inherited a mayor princedom after their sire and grand-sire was murdered in quick succesion.

I was pretty hyped when I watched their video but hearing your breakdown has alleviated that hype It's great we're getting these things and they are great additions, but I might just wait for longer Paradox games feel like they are always in a oven and if you want the full juicy experience, to really fill your belly with piping hot and finished content you should wait until they stop adding more stuff to the game At the same time though, the price would feel a lot less soul wrenching if I kept buying everything in chunks, right now if I was to buy everything I have not yet gotten, it would cost me around 87€ on Steam with 10% and 20% discounts I wonder how many hundreds I would need to fork out if I waited for everything to come out, would we break the half a thousand barrier? 😂

Very excited for the reworked bloodlines mechanic, Always one of my favourite parts in CK2 is too make bloodlines unique too me, So I’m glad too see it now plays a bigger and better role in the world

Elder Kings 2, Guardians of Azeroth 2, AGOT2 and POD2 would all legit become so lit it's gonna be hard to pick which to play.

I hope paradox or some modders makes it possible to play in an assasins guild. Imagine with the wandering und landless dlc this could be a thing
