Interesting how you're talking about runtlingen(?) being planned. We actually have this kind of rounded villages in southern France and northern Italy, but as it turns out the consensus on them is that people built inside the area that was kind of legally protected from violence around churches, and that they kind of pressed against each other there and eventually technically established open walls with this compact housing's "shell", that could be useful, just in case. So it wasn't planned here, it kind of just happened. The french term is "circulade", if you're ever curious. That's the one term I know.

People always focus on these big settlements, but not seen much of the sprawling medieval suburb where dwellings are just strewn over the whole countryside

You didn't need to restart. If you cant reach the enemy army then they cant reach you. Eventually it would white peace out. Thus you would survive.

I wonder if you could effectively build a roman-style fort city in this game, and whether it would improve the gathering of wealth/resources.

I still play CK2 since I haven't had the money to buy the CK3 DLCs, and it's still a blast. That said, I like to play as characters in underdog positions, such as Zoroastrian Persians, Nestorian Assyrians, Ashkenazim Jews and, my favorite, Celts of any religion

Something completely out of place if you'd like to try your hand at it, a roman colonia style settlement, just to see how you would make it work.

toppled byzantines by aug of 1082, crazy strat. Went the route you went hitting all the faith spots but in reverse and did my hajj super early, made my way down to egypt hitting everything along the way, once events started firing off I sailed up to greece and my entire camp died but me and a few people in a horrible storm... regrouped for a few years hitting all the holy sites in the Balkans, founded the assassins spot in Moesia, and went to war with ~8k from nizari counties + the men at arms I had gathered over my travels. took 3 years, 1 siege, and 1 battle to win. thx for the sweet vid! was super clueless with this character on my first playthrough and clearly it went much better. Going to build my Nizari empire now!

I often stay in a little village in Brazil. It’s quite an arid region, but after 8 months of drought when the rain finally comes, within a day or three there’s little shoals of fish in the puddles on the street and the lakes that are once again filled

27:21 As a western American, I feel I can speak to this. Kind of? Settlement in the wild west ebbed and flowed. Especially once you get into the southwest, ghost towns start cropping up more and more. Some settlements were founded by corporations, such as mining or railroad companies, while others were settled by prospectors (Like Denver, Leadville, and Tombstone). Other towns were founded by Mormon settlers (for those outside the USA or East coasters, mormons are a pseudo Christian faith that were founded in the early 19th century). Towns also would emerge around trading forts, particularly upon navigable rivers (like Ft. Benton, Montana). Other towns were simply rural homesteads, followed by more and more migrants, until you suddenly have a town. You saw that lind of settlement more in the Great Plains, but once you reach the inter-mountain west, it really goes up in smoke. So, yes and no. Locators like you are describing did not exist, but sometimes homesteaders, pioneers, or company scouts would do that. Many native settlements were also displaced in this process, and these nomadic tribes sometimes gathered in larger settlements as well to organize for war (like Greasy Grass in the Sioux war of '76). Others know more of this than I but I hope this helps answer your question.

Can you make a video showing what major changes have been made to the game since the early release. It would be interesting for players like me who have baught the game because the idea is great but want to wait for the game to get more mechanics/gameplay.
