WQEX 16 Pittsburgh Sign Off (1996)

Those who remember when WQEX 16 in Pittsburgh might remember how its broadcast days ended with a weird sketch involving a WQEX engineer. This was followed by credits listing donors, sports scores, and other random references set to Monty Python's "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."

Pittsburgh's WQEX turned the simple public television signoff into an art-form. I always looked forward to watching these.

Man, I was 2 years old back then, too young to even remember any sign offs from back in the day. It's kinda genius how WQEX signed off like this, it's a lot different from other tv sign offs I found on here and very creative.

Love It! I used to wait for he sign off just to see the crazy credits and hear the British song. You must read the credits, as bizarre things are sneaked in, as well as at the game scores and the stock market reports. Nothing was sacred. Always thought it would be a fun. place to work.

I'm guessing the MLB scores were fictional. I couldn't find a game where the Pirates beat the Mets by that exact score.

You're right. I Googled it myself. The closest they came was on September 13th, 1984. The Pirates beat the Mets 14-4 at Shea Stadium on that day. Jim Morrison drove in six runs for the Buccos.

I thought channel 16 was always in black and white or did they film this in color and it came out on the broadcast in black and white?
