When I was in radio news in the 70's we spent hours in amazement listening to these airchecks. Rock and roll news. Blue collar reporting. Incredible rhythm and writing. Wouldnt be possible now,

This is rivetting...and it takes me back to those days in the late 60's, listening from Leamington, Ontario, just up the road. No other news team in North America delivered the news in such a dramatic entertainment style. But they were factually correct in their reporting. CKLW were pioneers with everything they did. Thanks for the memories.

My favorite, other than the classic Louisville Slugger story, is the one with the 2 kids fishing in the river and pulled out a body. Yellow journalism at its finest.

@@commiesareevil3823 We left around Christmas 1991 and went up north to Traverse City. I grew up in Walled Lake. Lived there the first 11.5 years of my life. Nowadays, I understand it's not worth it to go back.

Notice NO commercials in the newscasts. Just PSAs. HAW!

Easy Aspi Not sure that's true; this is a series of snippets from various newscasts, not a full one, and the paid spots have likely been edited out.

They had commercials on 20/20 News. In fact, they had the largest radio news staff in Windsor/Detroit - 24 staffers! Their presence was everywhere on the streets. They won awards as well as faced numerous criticisms. However for a number of years Detroit was the murder capital of the world. CKLW 20/20 News was shock and awe to millions of listeners that may have helped to reduce the murder rates to what is now a small fraction of what they once were as people grew tired of the violence and bloodshed.

This kind of sensationalized lose style was typical of the Drake stations, and the signature 2020 news. KHJ had Jay Paul Huddleston, who was also pompous and overly dramatic. Each of the Drake stations, just like CK W., had the same sensationalized news delivery person. They were all amazing.

Wow, early 70s "yellow journalism". It's incredible how CKLW newscasts revelled in the grisly and laughably tasteless alliterations.
