He is definitely on of the best if not the best installer, teacher, etc I have ever checked out. I've learned so much from him. Keep up the good work and always remember "sticky side down". Lol

For those wondering: 3M Design line vs 3M Finish line knifeless tape Design line is a thinner filament and allows it to bend around curves and such easier but is harder to cut thick wraps like carbon fiber/3D patterned. Finish line is a thicker filament that can’t bend as easily but can cut through thicker vinyls easier for relatively straight cuts.

First of all, thank you so much for your videos. You are an excellent teacher and I am sure everyone who watches your videos are learning so much. I am planning on vinyl wrapping my boat dash. I painstakingly have spent hours peeling off the old carpet from the dash and then taking the old cracked vinyl wrap and adhesive off. I was going to try to wrap the dash in one piece but your video explains well why I no longer feel I should. Doing the inlays/overlays separately are probably the better way to go for a first timer.

Chris -- did I understand this correctly? You "inset/set back" the knifeless tape 1/16th of an inch in from the outer edge of the 1st piece (the inlay), so that when you place the second piece of vinyl & pull the knifeless tape, that 2cnd piece of vinyl will overlap the inlay piece by 1/16th of an inch.

I wonder how strong the knifeless tape is? Could you apply both the inlay and outside pieces with the knifeless tape underneath, and then pull on the tape to cut both pieces? That way, the joint would be perfect, no overlap or missing areas. Is this possible? Thanks for the great video. Makes me want to wrap my car! 👍👍

Hello sir, brand new subscriber here. Just wondering if doing an inlay here would expose the edge to the possibility of water seeping under the film? thank you.
@transam48893 жыл бұрын
But what if you put two strips of knife-less tape very near each other, cut the outer side of the inlay, put on the outlay, pull the second wire cutting through both the inlay and outlay with the single wire, fish the leftover tape and vinyl out of the joint and let the two edges meet perfectly without either of them being on top of the other? Do you consider this an option or have you seen problems with this technique?
@CKWraps3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't work. Vinyl shrink over time which will expose the paint underneath. No one will tell you that.

I like this video! But wouldn’t you want to do the overlay last (or I guess that would be an overlay?), to keep the open edge of the seam facing away from the weather (down)? That way when it rains, car washes etc. you won’t be as likely to lift that seam.

Hey Christian, so in my thinking of something like this, I would think since this is an area that gets a lot of things slid in and out the seam would be susceptible to something catching it and peeling it back when pulling a heavy item out of the trunk. Wouldn't it be better to have the seam along the lower edge of the body line instead of the top?

I really needed this when I tried wrapping my 95 M3 bumper cover. The fog light holes and brake inlets I found impossible to cover. I have to redo them, of course, but I didn't know what inlay was and I just assumed wrappers were all wrapping in one piece, which is impossible with my bumper cover

Great video, I couldn't see, when you lined the cut tape up the 2nd time, did you align the cut wire with the edge of the wrap or did you position to leave a small gap.
