A true beauty of a film. The camera work is years ahead of its time. The neo-realistic script feels effortlessly written. It's a movie you should watch more than once. It has levels.

Completely agree. After my first watch I knew I wanted to watch it again

I almost think 'genius' is underrating her. She never made a bad movie. Or the same movie twice. Every single film is unique. If she didn't feel it deeply, she didn't make it. Far as I'm concerned, some of Godard's films are hackwork he cranked out in a hurry--Made In USA is an example of that, hastily shot, adapted from a brilliant Donald Westlake crime novel he thought he had the rights to (he didn't, there was a lawsuit)--he just half-assed his way through the whole enterprise, stuck in a gratuitous reference to Vietnam. Varda's best work in terms of fiction-based film simply can't be improved upon. No point talking about her worst. There isn't any. The documentaries are less impressive, but still often brilliant.

This comment should be used as inspiration for everyone to check out more of her work! Thank you!

I love the film! It's genius, so thoughtful. Some of the improvisational scenes with the musicians seem so modern and impulsive. No one was doing this back then, at least not in any of the cinema I've seen. Where are these types of films nowadays? It seems like after the early 2000's everything became a Marvel movie.

I also wonder where these types of films are. I suppose the sad truth is that there are probably filmmakers who want to make these, but don't have the funding or the support to distribute the film
