You know what I actually really miss these trains. Used to travel from London Paddington to Gloucester most weekends on Intercity 125's back in the mid 90's. Great memories of those screaming Valentas 👍👍

"Nah, keep it going, she'll clear in a bit". And they usually did. Probably been idling for a while and the Paxman Valenta never liked that, so when the throttle is opened..... Fantastic!
@MisterHampshire2 ай бұрын
Exactly - they were just itching to go weren't they? Sure they had to idle at stations (and the only real time I saw any appreciable clag was when idling and then setting off), but even idling they were just itching to go.

Trains like that should stay in service for about a good 50 years if they can manage to survive and still run successfully 50 years late
Absolutely loved the "Intercity 125" from the beginning. Its original colours were stunning. Why did they bother making the 225 tho? It certainly wasn't as pretty and did it actually go any faster? Thanks for any info.

225 is better looking than 125 but that's subjective. 225 obviously is electrical which offers better economics
@nkt1 Жыл бұрын
@@N330AA I think most people would say the 125 is more attractive. The design is better resolved and it manages to look aerodynamic and fast, yet project an almost cheeky ‘face’. Every curve is in the right place. The 225 looks like a Class 60 with a pointy nose. Obviously the styling is hampered by the fact that it was designed as a mixed traffic locomotive, but it’s blocky and uninspiring.

@@nkt1 I like the 125 but i think it's a bit of an ugger tbh. Oh well.
