During about twenty years I've gotten the following Nocturnes renditions: Arthur Rubinstein; Maria Joao Pires; Pascal Amoyel; Alexis Weissenberg; Nelson Freire; Nikita Magaloff; Tamas Vasary; Claire Huangci; Vladimir Ashkenazy; Tatiana Shebanova. I would say that in a tad slow timing trend, Amoyel ones are very good. As a classic standard, though maybe a bit too sweet for nowadays taste, Rubinstein ones are kind of a good canon. Those of Magaloff are another excellent canon, a distant, clear crystal playing, and deeply sad, for my likings. Tatiana Shebanova recorded a fantastic Chopin piano works Integrale. Her Nocturnes are beyond praise, the only inconvenient if you acquire her great recordings box, is that Chopin works are ordered by Opus nr., which makes it not so easy, to hear the Nocturnes one after the other, as you surely like. Those of Weissenberg are also excellent, but "darker and stronger", as was said. The Vasary ones rank among the best, and belong to the precious kind, recreating very well a dreamy atmosphere. The Pires ones are a tad heavy handed, maybe a bit cloying even, and would take me long to explain why I would discard them, if compared to others. Her Schubert and Mozart are much better, think. The Freire Chopin Nocturnes are very well played, but it's maybe a more superficial reading, in what concerns the emotional display, if challenging others, there again. The Ashkenazy interpretation is well balanced and in the virtuosic side, but it's a more "masculine" Chopin, which is not entirely my kind. However, His Shostakovich Preludes are remarkable. So, according to my own musical palate and agreeing with my pianist mother, our prefered survey is the Claire Huangci album. Her sensitivity makes the whole quite a moving trip. It's a heartfelt and technically prodigious rendition, an excellent articulation with the melodic line all time prevailing. Her beautiful tone pitch fits perfectly well with this music. Miss Huangci set is just perfect, in every sense. After Huangci or also altogether with, goes the great Shebanova, who for me, is the real canon (if there had to be one), about how to play Chopin. Shebanova's Nocturnes, also a bit slower maybe, are sheer beauty. Shebanova is first class playing. If had to mention two others to place after Huangci, would count the Vasary ones and then the Weissenberg (as an interesting and different to any other) survey are my two other choices. Then I would rank Amoyel also, after these four, though insist, in a tad slower trend, as remarked. So, for us and other pianists friends of mine, Claire Huangci has recorded a masterwork, this is music for eternity. Get it, don't hesitate. Can't forget the extraordinary Thierry de Brunhoff rendition, the only one I would place at the same Huangci level. Though it's a pity, haven't been able to find his recording on sale, in the market. If you want to listen to this discrete, sober, but shockingly good performance (less is more) you'll get haunted. De Brunhoff goes direct to your soul. You can discover it in KZbin. Needless to say, this is only a humble criteria, excuses in advance to every other. It's just a personal comparison am daring to leave here. But be sure, Huangci Chopin is top notch. Heard her Scarlatti is also outstanding. Thanks so many for the upload. 🎵🎶💎👍❤️

Sounds reasonable. Waiving the hands does not make it sound better.

We’ll be the judge of that. You play it now without the hand-waving and we’ll let you know. At present, she’s winning.

Why does Mrs. Huangci play this piece? - She does not feel the passion, the pain or any kind of despair, which is in this music.

Yes she does. You are insane! I disagree. Sorry. It’s actually one of the best performances in my opinion.
