How was the transition from being a high school senior to a college freshman?? I’m so scared that it’s gonna be such a major difference that I don’t know how to cope
@claireemercier5 жыл бұрын
It honestly wasn’t that bad!!! I would just say that the biggest change is the fact that you are completely responsible for yourself - you’re not going to have teachers reminding you constantly of due dates or your parents helping you do laundry and clean. To make the transition as smooth as possible, I would recommend being as organized as possible! So keep a planner or use Google Calendar to record due dates & other important reminders. As long as you stay on top of your work, you will be just fine. And, you finally get to live “on your own,” and even though it does come with some added responsibilities, it’s so awesome to be free lol!! Hope that helped, and thanks for watching :)

Hey! I’m a hs senior and last minute decided to apply to USC. I’m in some AP’s but my weighted gpa is like a 3.66 and SAT is 1170. Is this low for accepted USC applicants?
@claireemercier5 жыл бұрын
Hi!! Thanks for watching :) Here is a link to the class of 2023's stats - admission.usc.edu/wp-content/uploads/Freshman-Profile-2019.pdf . Honestly though, USC takes so much more than just stats into account when looking at who to admit. They really want to develop a diverse student body in many different aspects, so my best piece of advice is to show something unique about yourself through your essays to make yourself really stand out!! Good luck :)

The quote I live by is "Great things never come from comfort zones." Honestly, if you really love USC, I say go for it!!! I also was scared of being out of place - I come from a rural community in Illinois, so I was really scared of the culture shock I was going to experience when I got to SC. I pushed through that fear though, and I am so, SO happy I did. Choosing to attend USC was the best decision I have ever made, hands down. My fear of feeling out of place faded quickly as I found some amazing friends, and I'm sure you will too. USC's student body is so diverse, and there literally is a group for everyone! Good luck with whatever you do - & fight on :)

@claireemercier4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!!! and congrats!!! I bet you’re so excited - I know I was. But I was definitely super nervous too. I think my biggest piece of advice is to step outside of your comfort zone while you’re at USC, especially in the first few weeks. Start conversations with random people, look into clubs you’ve never even heard of, etc. I actually met my core friend group during welcome week because I went up and started a conversation with a random guy at the welcome back concert, lol!!! If there is anything more specific you have questions/want tips on, let me know - you can either comment on here or DM me on Instagram and I would be happy to help you out. ☺️☺️☺️

Can you give some tips when applying to USC in the application process? Thx
@claireemercier2 жыл бұрын
My advice on how to get in - - Let your uniqueness shine through your application. USC is all about diversity in many different regards, so in my application I made sure to talk about what I thought made me most unique (growing up in a town of 800 people) - Make sure you show USC what you will bring to campus/how you will improve it. For me, I talked about how I was going to bring a unique perspective to LA because most people that go to USC didn’t grow up in a tiny midwestern farm town. Another thing I should’ve written about is my KZbin channel, because I feel like my videos have really helped the prospective student community! - Of course, work to keep your grades up/take courses that will challenge you as well :) - Have others look over your essays. I spent countless hours with my English teacher to work on mine and it helped so much! - Make sure your essays are interesting to read! Make them read like a story instead of like you’re just answering a prompt Hopefully that helps!

Hi Gary! I haven't followed the change too closely, but to me, it is a little odd that USC would move to the Big 10 just because it means a lot more travel time for the Trojans.

I can't find the price of studying cinema on the website
@claireemercier4 жыл бұрын
Here is a link to the financial aid website - admission.usc.edu/learn/cost-financial-aid/ Tuition is the same at USC across all undergraduate majors, so any major in the School of Cinematic Arts will be the price listed on the website! The only difference in price may have to do with fees for major-specific equipment, supplies, etc. :)

Really cool vlog :) do you have any advice for incoming freshmen (usc marshall class of 2025!) for everything literally lol? Thanks!
@claireemercier3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, and absolutely!! I am hoping to make a video on this at some point this summer, but in general, here are a few pieces of advice I gathered during my semester at SC: - If you applied/received financial aid - appeal it! I appealed mine, citing the variability in my father's income, and received an extra approximately $2,000 off. If you/your family have any sort of financial situation that wasn't able to be reported on the FAFSA/CSS Profile, be sure to bring it to the attention of the Financial Aid Office! - Go to the Welcome Week events! I met my close group of friends at the Welcome Back Concert, and I really did enjoy a lot of the other events USC held. - Prepare to apply to a lot of clubs/orgs if you are looking to get involved - a lot of USC student organizations are pretty selective and have lengthy application/interview processes. - Push yourself to participate in class, especially in Marshall! A good chunk of my BUAD 304 grade was determined by my participation in the class. - Prepare for challenging courses. I went to an easy high school, and USC classes were extremely challenging for me. Make sure to stay on top of your courses and utilize office hours if you have any questions - don't let yourself fall behind! Hopefully these helped!!! Good luck and fight on 😊✌🏽❤️

@@claireemercier lol thank you so much for writing this. I just committed! I am a spring admit tho. so I had applied for financial aid (they asked for soo many documents lol) but I still got good gift aid (around 17k a semester) so it is affordable for my family so I don't see the need to appeal rn but will def do if anything changes next year. other than BUAD 304, you recommend taking any specific classes at Marshall you liked? Honestly, USC's student body is so diverse! How is the financial aid at USC? I was watching your video and I was shocked how you didn’t drink that expensive Starbucks drink after probably spending an unreasonable amount of money on it. Don’t get me the wrong way, I love your video and you definitely deserve more views but USC has a reputation for being called the university of spoiled children and as a low income student, do you think it would be hard for me to “fit in” if I have a tight budget? Thanks
@kaitlynsandoval47344 жыл бұрын
Adnaan Elahi USC has recently “upped the game” on their FA, so it should be more flexible, as they want to make sure that not having enough to pay isn’t an obstacle when trying to attend. Also, don’t worry about fitting in! I’m sure you will make good friends, no matter your socioeconomic status.
@claireemercier4 жыл бұрын
No offense taken 😂 I usually don’t throw away drinks like that, I just happened to try something new that day and absolutely hated it LOL. As for USC’s financial aid - they are relatively generous, but I actually come from a middle class family & the aid they gave me based on my family’s income wasn’t enough for me to stay. I left after my first semester at USC primarily because I was so stressed about the crazy debt I was going to be in after graduation (about $110K). With that being said, I didn’t have a problem “fitting in” or making friends even though I came from a lower income family, so I am going to second what Kaitlyn said - you shouldn’t have a problem making friends or fitting in at all due to your socioeconomic status :) There were days where my friends and I would take the metro to Santa Monica ($3.50 round trip) and we had a ton of fun doing that, so you definitely don’t have to spend a ton of money to have fun experiences with the people you meet at USC. Hopefully that helped you!!! Let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks for watching my video :)

Heyyy love ur vid! you seem so funnn! I'm an upcoming freshman and im signing up for classes... how is the intro to cinema class? is it a good idea to take the lecture back to back with the discussion?
@claireemercier4 жыл бұрын
Awww thanks so much !!!!!! And welcome to the Trojan Family :) So about Intro to Cinema...both me and my best friend/freshman year roommate took the course, and I'm not going to lie, we really didn't like it near as much as we thought we would. There are (I think) three papers that you have to write over the course of the semester, and if you are in WRIT 150 at the same time it can get to be a little crazy lol! We watched a movie every week in cinema which was kinda cool, but most of the movies were really old and put us to sleep. If I'm being honest...I skipped like every single lecture during the second half of the semester and just went to discussion LOL (this actually helped both Kenzie and me do better in the class for some reason). The prof we had though, Drew Casper, isn't teaching the class next year (I'm pretty sure) so that will probably change the class a lot - he was pretty hard to follow and the movies he chose to show us were a big part of the reason why we disliked lectures so much. Overall, I wouldn't say I recommend that you take the course, but my opinions are all based off of Drew Casper's version of the course. Hopefully that helped - let me know if you have any other questions !!!!!! FTFO :)
