Uprooted made it onto my list too! I loved Agniezka's powers.

I loved "Of Sorrow and Such"! I think the sense of dread is real, but also there's a sense of familiarity and being at home in the story, which I think is largely due to the narrator's voice. I also read one of Slatter's excellent short story collections "Sourdough", which has a story about Patience in it.

I just read Of Sorrow and Such, and it was on my list for this topic as well. I'm also planning on reading Witches of Lychford later this month. You've made me want to read The Thirteenth Child!

Know of any witch novels that are action packed, lots of fights?

I think I've read The Thirteenth Child (I definitely remember reading something involving magic on the frontier and I have been trying to remember the title for AGES.) If I haven't read it I'm going to, if only because I love the author's other work.

I always love it when the heroine of a story has a completely different type of magic than her mentor and they end up complementing each other instead of her quickly learning everything he has to teach her and then suddenly becoming much more powerful than a wizard with years and years of experience. Uprooted did a marvelous job with that. Another book that comes to mind is Howl’s Moving Castle (then again, that one always comes to mind because it is simply the best).

Have you read The Age of Five trilogy by Trudi Canavan? I really enjoyed that series. The main character is a strong magic wielding woman (I'm not sure she's ever referred to as a witch, but I think she fits the looser sense of the term).

I haven't read it but I've heard good things about Canavan in general.

Can you put links to purchase the books under the little "i" in the top right corner? Like, I know it's just a google away but I'd be interested in which kind of shops I should buy from if I'm just now trying to get into reading more.

Really great suggestions I'd like to read . I'm also looking for a good book a man who's into Norse mythology would enjoy. Thank you ❤

Ohh, I've not read many but the first thing that comes to mind is Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, which he might know already as that was quite a big release? Also the Runes books by Joanne Harris (www.goodreads.com/series/233145-loki), and the Valhalla Saga by Snorri Kristjansson (www.goodreads.com/series/109711-the-valhalla-saga). Hope these help!

Great review! Really broke through the standard list of books that make the rounds. Also, I'm a latina and follow brujeria so seeing that on a list of a non-latina is pretty dope :)
