Have you read How to Hang a Witch by Adrianna Mather? I haven't yet, but she's an actual descendent of one of the women who hung in Salem during the witch trials and it follows the modern day descendants. It's also compared to Mean Girls! Another series on my TBR is the Jessica Spotswood trilogy (Born Wicked) and as for my favorite witch, I just love Manon so much

Not to suggest that you shouldn't read How to Hang a Witch, which I very much enjoyed, but when I think of a witch book crossed with Mean Girls I think of Hollow Pike by James Dawson. At least the first part of that book. It takes a left turn part way through and kind of loses that element, while also sadly dropping in quality.

I definitely enjoyed the book, but I go back and forth on it as a tv show, though I did include in my recent blog post about books I would like to see as TV series.andrewclendening.wordpress.com/2017/06/07/top-ten-books-that-could-jump-to-tv/ It might actually make the most sense to start a tv show as a prequel focusing on Salem in the years leading up to the book, but then the show would have to deal with the main character suddenly showing up a few years into the series.

A really cool witch series is "Dorothy Must Die" by Danielle Paige and it's a Wizard Of Oz spin-off where a normal girl, Amy, from Kansas gets caught in a bad storm like Dorothy did and ends up in Oz, but Dorothy completely destroyed Oz and everyone says that she's the chosen one to kill Dorothy. She meets a rebellion and they teach her how to be a witch and all the normal characters, like the lion, have become vicious beats and Amy is on a mission to kill Dorothy while also dealing with personal struggles, like her mom being abusive and an alcoholic. It's a lot more interesting than how I put it, but I think you should read it.

If you haven't heard of it already you should check out 'The Graces' by Laure Eve, which is one of the most popular YA witch books in the UK, and 'Practical Magic' which has a slightly different tone, but the movie with Sandra Bullock is SUPER good! - Bee x

Hey Sophie! Have you read Witch and Wizard by James Patterson? Its this really interesting series about a brother and sister named Whit and Wisty and they're worn changes one day when the new government, if you can even call it that lol, comes barging into their house at night, accuses them of being a witch and a wizard, and takes them away from their parents to a facility they will later try to escape from. Side note : Honestly I can't say I remember that much of this series considering I read it while I was in middle school like 6 years ago but I remember it being really griping and me loving every single page and re-reading the first book like 4 times, although looking back at it now the first two books were painfully cheesy and sort of predictable because I think it is a middle grade book,😅 but it was still a fun read and I still recommend it 😂

The All-Souls Trilogy (Discovery of Witches) is my favorite adult trilogy of all time. I re-read it every year. I love it so so so much. If we're talking humanoid creature, I have a soft spot for witches, vampires, and werewolves. Non humanoid, however, I will choose dragons every day all day no problem.

You should read Equal Rites by Terry Pratchet. It's about witches. It's a part of his Discworld series (you don't have to read the other Discworld stuff to understand the Witches series within the whole Discworld series)

Hmm, I've heard about the first two series, but the local libraries and bookstores don't have the complete sets. I've seen a lot of people being very unhappy about the way the Half Bad series ended, which has kept me away from them for now. And I've recently become aware of the Discovery of Witches book, but haven't yet decided if I should buy it or not.In my last blog post, about books I could see as tv shows I really wanted to go with a witch series as an alternative to the CW's strange idea for a Charmed reboot, so I went with How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather. It got some mixed reviews, but I really liked the story about characters who, like the author, were descended from people in the Salem Witch Trials, and I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel.What witch books do you think would make good TV shows?

A few other recommendations, though I think some of them have already been mentioned.Rachel Hawkins Hex Hall is a lighter take on the witch book.Truthwitch by Susan Dennard is an excellent book, though I didn't like the second book in the series quite as much. Others disagree with me about that though.Kendare Blake's Three Dark Crowns is about an island where there are always triplet princesses, each representing one type of magic, and they must kill each other for the right to be queen. The book took some criticism, in part because after making it seem like the competition is right around the corner, the book is more of a slow burn. But I'm still looking forward to the sequel.Finally, Sarah Rees Brennan's Lynburn Legacy series is well worth a read.
