I love that while this kitchen is aspirational, it also feels normal! It's a little messy, Claire talks about making certain choices because of budget, etc. It's refreshing!
@MrAcuriteOf13375 ай бұрын
What I like about it is that there's a sort of balance between order and madness, like it's a place that was very carefully designed to have lots of stuff happening in it. Adam Savage, on one of his Tested talks, described how he sets up his workshop to always have everything a maximum of one movement-of-stuff away; stuff could be in a drawer, but not in a drawer and then under something, for example. So the way this kitchen is set up, where everything's so easily accessible, really feels like it goes towards that same goal.

Love the tour! Lots of great ideas and things to think about for my kitchen. I did envision the trouble my son would have gotten into it at 10 months old with the knife drawer and oven controls on front. At that age, he took a container of cottage cheese out of the fridge, stood on it, and started to hook the top of a pot of boiling water using the pasta stirrer I’d left on the counter. Since then, I’m keenly aware of the other people in the kitchen with me and kick them out if I need to. My son is in college now, and is a great cook and baker. I no longer kick him out.

What a dream kitchen! A tip on the wine, it's not ideal to store it in front of a window. The direct light and temperature changes can cause problems with the wine, so it's best to store it in a cool, dark place. That does look like a nice convenient spot though so simply placing some material, like cardboard, in between the wine and the window would help a lot!

Yes! Love the behind-the-scenes look. The kitchen looks so large on-camera, which it is in the sense of taking up a large portion of the cabin, but zooming out and around it's laid out really well with the storage and seating in a small space. I wasn't a fan of the green tile (if any other spots need tile look into Heath Ceramics!), but then seeing the green glasses it really does match well. Kudos for the quotes being added on the surfaces; nice touch! And nice to see the outside of the cabin! What a place. Take us on a tour of the outside -- is there a veggie garden? For anyone watching this for kitchen inspo: quartz/granite countertops are easy to clean and you can cut on them (only the knifes will take a beating) and like claire said induction! Gas companies are lobbying for you to think gas is best, and while I used to say only a chef cook might need a gas stove top, seeing Claire have one makes me say they are the best option for any home kitchen, they are easy to clean, and so practical and so on... I would recommend, if possible, to have a seamless transition between stove top and counter top, it's sooo much easier to clean. And yes big sinks are fantastic!! Not totally without warning, it was in the works as you can tell, the old kitchen was in progress, no official counters, or little there of, a portable dishwasher (countertop), etc. It was obvious that the kitchen had been partially gutted, but put enough together to make it workable until they could get it redone. I think she did say they were going to redo the kitchen at one point, so not totally surprised unless you were unaware.
