Clairo held a five night residency at NYC's Webster Hall as part of her tour supporting her latest album "Charm". I had VIP tickets and arrived at 9AM which feels like a bit overkill especially with priority entry. It went pretty smoothly with my friends in line, as I had my car parked across the street for access to water, supplies, change of clothing, chairs, umbrella, and storage.
After we were let in to the venue, we were under the assumption that we had free time to buy merch and use the bathroom. However after I got out of the bathroom, I realized they had started letting people upstairs and I missed it. I went from guaranteed barricade at 7ths in line to second row because of mismanagement by security. Luckily my friend Aidan was able to squeeze over a bit and get me a tiny enough spot on the barricade and saved my life for the show.
Still it was pretty hard visuals for the show as Claire opted from no lights in the front. IT was only top lit and backlit so she was rather shadowed during the whole set. Security also tried to stop me twice thinking I was using flash and telling me not to record despite a lot of people in the front row with their phones out. I really loved the "Charmified" versions of previous songs and you can hear that they sound different, fresh, yet familiar. The fans behind me were singing along loudly but luckily were actually "singing" and not scream shouting.
Clairo came out after the show and signed items and chatted with fans before jumping in her taxi. I think she was very happy to be New York and playing shows for us. You could see it in her big smiles as she interacted with us after the show. While I'd usually try to attend multiple nights for artists I like, I think this show will be enough.
