Clamming for Cockles at Netarts Bay on the Oregon Coast

On this gorgeous day in June, we took advantage of the negative tides on the coast by deciding to go clamming. We used typical garden rakes to clam for our favorite type of clam, cockles. They are fun and easy to dig up, and are good eating. In the past, we’ve raked up keeper Dungeness crab in the bay, and got lucky this time as well! Always good to carry a measuring tool just in case you come across one of these. Unfortunately, my battery ran out before finding the crab. Hope you enjoyed this video!

Is there any way to tell where to start raking?

I rake in and near the waters edge. Rake in sections, and if the teeth of your rake are short, I’ll sometimes rake over the same area twice.
