CLAN DES OBEAUX takes the 2019 Ladbrokes King George VI Chase as Cyrname has no answer

2008 winner Clan Des Obeaux provided Paul Nicholls with a record 11th victory in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase.
Although only five runners went to post for the traditional Boxing Day feature, the race did not lack intrigue, with the defending champion Clan Des Obeaux taken on by his top-class stablemate Cyrname, Betfair Chase hero Lostintranslation, Irish raider Footpad and outsider Aso.
Having inflicted a first career defeat over jumps on Altior at Ascot last month, Cyrname was the well-backed 5-4 favourite, with Harry Cobden siding with him over Clan Des Obeaux.
After initially taking a lead from Aso, Cyrname adopted his customary prominent position at the head of affairs with over a circuit to go - and was still just about in front rounding the home turn.
However, 11-2 chance Clan Des Obeaux was travelling the better of the pair in the hands of Sam Twiston-Davies and pulled right away between the final two fences, winging the last to score by 21 lengths.

Clan Des Obeauxs gold cup today, lostintranslation has a breathing issue and Cyrname is only the best chaser in training at Ascot, 1 track wonder. The winner was 5th in the gold cup last season, expect that is as good as he is

We have had a day of days on Boxing Day, 26th December. Clan Des Obeaux, a second successive King George VI Chase there, Epatante won the Christmas Hurdle and the resurgence of Faugheen at Limerick. Brought the house down to win impressively. Without doubt, the best champion hurdler since probably Night Nurse to win a Grade 1 over fences.

I think faugheen was better then Istabaraq... unfortunately got injured when he was 1/4 for champion hurdle... and didn't run for 2years... he was already rated 176, same as istabaraq but never got a chance to improve on that because of injury

Even though cyrname wasn't on a good trip as well as the distance was too much for him he still put in the effort too finish 2nd. It doesn't matter because I still love that horse as it's a good horse! 💯😊

Cyrname is still underperform since falling latest.And Lostintranslation hasn’t been seen. This was a class performance.Should go well in the Gold Cup with Bristol De Mai

Never mind the excuses, Cyrname simply does not stay 3 miles, in fact there was only one 3-miler in the race Clan Des Obeaux. The poorest turnout for a King George I've seen in years. I bet some of the trainers of class 3-milers are rueing the fact that didn't have entries for this, in what turned out to be a non-event. I doubt that the winner will finish in the first 3 in the Gold Cup, though I would love to be proved wrong.

Nicholls said Cyrname would definitely stay 3 miles but completely emptied 2 furlongs out. Bearing in mind this is an easy 3 miles they should totally forget anything beyond 21 furlongs. He is still in Gold Cup betting?

Cyrname should never have run if clan was fully tuned up... the horse that out paced altior can never be a 3miler... i think cyrname would be better over 2miles.

Didn't think it was a great idea to run Lostintranslation in this one as he's an out and out galloper and Kempton is basically a jumping/speedster track where you always seem to be on the turn. Seemingly has a breathing issue but he was never jumping fast enough to figure anyway. The million pound bonus may have had a big impact on his career sadly. On ratings and it's last run Cyrname should have been short odds-on and the fact it wasn't always made me highly suspicious. Looks like that last race took more out of him than we imagined as he was never going with the same zest as previously. Clan Des Obeaux showed another side today with this victory as it was pretty much a war of attrition for the last mile and he never came off the bridle. Last year they maybe went to the well too much with him but this year he looks back to his best. You will always have that nagging doubt whether Cheltenham is his course - it's the only thing stopping me hammering him for the GC.

Yeah i agree the 5-1 is tempting as he looks an improved animal n no horse other than him has really put down a marker for GC imo hes worth the chance at 5s.

Esther Dykes he was on the bridle 2 out last year in the gc but he faded away in the final 2f.....it just depends on whether you think he’s improved and can stay that extra few furlongs this year...

The form of this race, isn't worth the paper it's written on. Cyrname ran well below his best and Lostintranslation isn't as good going right-handed. Take those two out of the race and Clan is all you're left with (I'd have fancied my chances against Footpad and Aso!) It's a pity Altior didn't run. I think he might have won
