Relive my childhood with every episode. Would watch every Saturday & Sunday morning while eating breakfast. New Yankee Workshop, This Old House, & Hometime with Dean Johnson. Learned a lot. Great memories. Watching these greats again. Wish there was full episodes of Hometime on KZbin. Then all would be perfect.

I saw this episode as a kid, and it always stuck with me. I finally built a Clancy in 2021. The technology and ease of construction for amateur boats has come a long way since the Clancy, but it was still very straightfirward to build, and the finished boat is indeed and excellent little sailing dinghy.
@talyrath Жыл бұрын
Is it still a glue and screw plan, or has it been updated to more modern methods?
@LeeBoatworks Жыл бұрын
It hasn't been updated, still built the way Norm did. I'm well versed in modern stitch'n'glue techniques, so did things slightly differently (and skipped the vast majority of the screws), but still built it on the jig, etc.

From Wikipedia Steve Thomas: "At the age of 13, Thomas decided he wanted to go sailing, so he bought his first sailboat. In 1977, Thomas worked as a carpenter on a 75-foot (23 m) ketch under construction in Antibes, France. He also logged many nautical miles sailing a 43-foot (13 m) wooden sloop from England to San Francisco via the Panama Canal, Galapagos Islands, Marquesas, and Hawaii. In the early 1980s inspired by an old dream he went on sailing across the Pacific. This voyage led him to Satawal where he met Mau Piailug and spent months learning the ancient technique of star path navigation. He moved to Massachusetts in 1980

Alternatively, you can use 4x8 sheets if you can't find 4x10. Cut a piece from the transom to the back bulkhead, then cut another piece from the bulkhead to the stem (or use the front bulkhead as the joint, or back on one side and front on the other). Since the bulkhead is just 1/4'' you'll need to sandwich the sides from deck to keel between two pieces of wood that you can screw the sides into. Use plexiglass tape on the seams. Use the same approach with the deck -- a left and right piece from the transom to the front bulkhead, then one piece from the front bulkhead to the stem.
