I would love to see a game like this REALLY lean into the generational aspect of it - you'd have to abstract it and have children learn passively from following their parents around. But it already sparks some interesting ideas around research. Things like penalties for people working on research started by someone else, having to re-learn things that older generations worked out. Having people record information in some way to speed up that refreshing.
@DominicDarrell2 жыл бұрын
I’d love to have a big family like that. Having children be different, yet very similar to their parents, as well as build skills based on their parents, would be awesome. Avoiding incest by taking in refugees would be another challenge around it. Incest could lead to more negative traits, getting increasingly damaging with every new generation of incest babies.
@ChrisSDParker2 жыл бұрын
@@DominicDarrell I can't really see anyone willingly trying to model incest as a game mechanic, there's a reason Dwarf Fortress skips over defecation. Instantly marked as "the game with the dwarves and the shit" Incest, outside something like Crusader Kings would probably attract the entirely wrong audience
@DominicDarrell2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisSDParker oh fair point, I just love complicating everything. I suppose the best option would be to disallow incest altogether, but my point about needing refugees would stand. That, or hosting parties that maybe leads to new relationships/children. Otherwise you’re very limited in how the family grows. You’ll be left with a bunch of brothers and sisters who eventually die off due to no reproduction.

4:39 Eels are a common food in the UK, and has a long history among the English Isles. It's not completely died out but it's far less common today than it once was. Eel pies are still ate in the UK in certain areas. Even eel liquor, which doesn't sound too appetizing but it exists as well.

it's funny how mods can completely change a game. You can literally play a generation based game, with wobbly characters, with technological advancing and slow aging, teach kids and basically everything you said, in Rimworld, with mods xD. This game looks really promissing though. I'm eager to see more of it.

So! Retting is the process of letting a plant submerge in water in order to rot the flesh off it faster to make the fibers easier to separate and therefore collect. Idk how long it takes in game, but irl this usually takes a week or two depending on the materiel. Possible to harvest I’d say in about 4 days, but very difficult

I find this game really interesting! As someone who does know a decent amount about medieval England, a lot of the game is familiar and that's so cool! I love the idea of a more directly historical based game, I think it can be educational on just how smart our ancestors actually were. I'm excited to see more, it definitely needs some work on the UI, it lacks a certain visual consistency, and doesn't always get across the information for the player in a concise manner.

the fact that the colonists in Rimworld can't have children in-game always bugged me. On an unrelated note, I once undertook an incredibly involved selective breeding program for my dogs and my dwarves in dwarf fortress, pairing strong with strong to try to create strong offspring. At the end of the day, though I locked them in designated breeding sections of my fortress, I couldn't get the dwarves I wanted to marry to marry each other. The dog breeding program was actually a big success, by the end of it I had the beefiest, most agile dogos in the world. Not sure if it actually matter for combat, and I designed the fortress to be the type where all your enemies come in and just get crushed by a giant bridge because I wanted it to last a long time, sooooo, I never really got to put the dogs to much use. Basically, the moral of the story is that it's hard to selectively breed dwarves.

Probably because it would be a needless drain on the games resources for what little benefit it would add, not many Rimworld campaigns last like 10+ years so you would just have useless children running around getting murdered that whole time, unless it was like mods where you can just make them pop out at 14. But in Rimworld considering the advanced nature of technology it would make sense to assume that we overcame population issues by making everyone infertile and just growing people in vats or whatever.
@alexc81142 жыл бұрын
What Mr Cheesemunch said tbh - I installed a pregnancy mod and the babies are useless for most of the playtime. I have actually considered sterilising my married couple so they don't keep producing children who are a drain on the fortress.

Ambigous, thanks for letting me know about this game. It's like Dwarf Fortress in the age/action but without the temper tantrums. I have been playing The Wandering Village. Of course, it's in EA but the concept is great. You are building a village on the back of a giant plant turtle thing called Ondu. You have a local village scope, Ondu is growing the resources on his back, and you can have Ondu wander to other places on the map. It's like Rimworld where your village is a walking Long Island just hupping all across the world.

Harvest alot of mushrooms and dry them. Make sure you make it to the fireplace and build small-ish rooms. Use a vent to heat rooms connected to the room with the fireplace. It will heat them well enough. Make sure to kill as many animals for the hide and make everyone clothes out of them. With all the dried mushrooms, hide clothes and sticks for the fireplace you will make it. I restarted like 20 times just to die out in winter, just to realise that it is quite easy when you get the hang of it. About to hit my 4th winter.
