It was a long time ago I figured this out, but you can actually do natural farming in cold climates with just a thermal vent. I think you can have 15-20% of a room unroofed before it becomes considered outdoors, so you can have a large room around a vent with some unroofed tiles to give sunlight. Then the plants will be warm enough at all times, and have light at daytime. No electricity needed, no research, immune to solar flares. Seems like the fertility in that region isn't good but it's still farmable.
@Kittyinshadows2 ай бұрын
I love doing that. Also can save on electricity by planting potato in the rough terrain and only do hydroponics where there isnt soil.
@everwhatever2 ай бұрын
are all the tiles in the room considered lit or only the ones that are unroofed specifically?
@FirebladesSongАй бұрын
@@everwhatever The ones that are unroofed are the best, but it does spread a little out from that. Most plants only need 51% light, so you can get a bit more.

So wonderful, thank you :) Recently I've been rewatching your older Rimworld series for like 6th time and I think that this kind of content fits Rimworld so much better than shorter formats. After all it's hard to immerse yourself in story and characters if it's a 15 minute fast-forward summary... and Rimworld is all about the story. Once again: thank you!
@ambiguousamphibian27 күн бұрын
Thanks! I really appreciate that feedback - think if I revisit RW anymore I’ll keep it nice and long and less edited for that vibe. Kinda went to both extremes but I’m happy with this format for awhile

I've got to say, the jaunty elevator/lobby music really adds to the viewing experience. It puts you in the mindset of your standard Rimworld psychopathic cannibal. Yes, it's a feezing hellhole where everything wants you dead, and no part of a human goes to waste. But is it really that bad? You've got to remember to smile, and give a whistle.

I always like the mod that makes clothes only become tainted if the enemy rots while wearing it. Because otherwise, you could have a pristine coat that was being worn when the wearer died, becoming tainted, while another coat, torn, bloodstained, riddled with vomit and bullet holes, is "untainted", so long as you strip the wearer a nonsecond before they die.

Pete Complete is indeed amazing and awesome! During his first RimWorld series, starring Cambiar (the cannibal psychopath) and Cobra (the first arrival not to be eaten) Randy Random delivered half a dozen or so cargo pods of cheeseburgers. I penned and posted a 3-sentence fan fic in which Cobra lets it slip that he prefers to keep kosher, at which point the morally grotesque murder hermit from a literal other planet (Cambiar) starts running and screaming "Oh God!!! Oh God!!! I'm trapped all alone out here, surrounded by Jew!!!" I was surprised that my contribution actually disappeared. Go unnoticed, sure - but about a week later it was gone. Pete speaks flawless British English. So I only later pieced together that he is in fact German. I don't THINK he got in trouble for the (my) joke but I feel a bit bad about the whole thing.
