This feels so very somber and yet uplifting in a way. I've always felt like I was intruding to be in a graveyard.. but I imagine it would be very touching to have someone care enough to paint the place where loved ones were. It's like you are recording the strange beauty of the place.

As a small town girl....ive seen some types of the decor u saw at my hometown cemetary....i hav a feeling one person did decorate...the graves give off a feeling of lost and forgotten but someone wanted them to feel loved....i find cemeteries and abandoned places very interesting subjects

I've never seen a cemetery look like that before. It's like an eerie carnival. I'm so happy you shared this with us and the pieces you made are beautiful and ominous.

In my hometown Tegucigalpa, Honduras there is this one cementery that has so many plastic flowers and wind toys that it almost looks like a playground. I I think is the families effort to show they care with pretty things

What a fabulous cemetery. I love this kind of unrestrained creativity. It certainly looks like the work of a child who is trying his best to honour the dead-'uns. I understand why cemeteries have the restrictions on decoration that you spoke about, but it ends up with a place that is more curated and less about individual expressions of love and grief. I wonder whether the tightness in the second painting was due to the use of brush pens? Or perhaps it was simply the use of saturated colour pulling you from your usual loose practice. There's a lot of detail in that second scene and distilling that down to it's kinetic essence is bound to take more than one iteration.

I feel like this is very typical of a rural cemetery in an economically depressed area. There's not as much gatekeepers with regard to the quality or aesthetics of the decorations, and fake flowers are waaaaay cheaper than real ones, and don't need to be watered. Part of me hates it because to my eye it's really tacky, and the other part of me who grew up here and has watched all the factories close and the union jobs leave completely understands the need to economize. I enjoyed this glimpse into life in rural Utah as much as I enjoyed the painting content! Thank you for sharing. ❤️

What paper were you using throughout this video? I thought it was Arches since you can see the border thats around the cover of their blocks but the description says it was a Winsor and Newton watercolour block.
