Recently, a classmate of mine traced an entire artwork for an assignment, which is basically plagiarism since the changes she made were very insignificant. The teacher, however, did not know and decided to put it on display for our school's exhibit. Long story short, someone found out and one of the hardcore art kids got mad and told the teacher. I feel really bad for the teacher since she really liked the piece but was practically stabbed in the back. The girl that got caught cried for days, but as a hardcore art kid myself, I find it hard to empathize with her since I found out she was going to put the artwork in her PORTFOLIO. I'd say the hardcore art kid that snitched was doing her a favor since it was in highschool and she got caught before submitting anything.

I love this aloe art so much! Question: Do you recommend another type of sumi brush, as the one recommended is sold out? (I've been keeping an eye out for them to come back in stock and not sure they will.) Beautiful work!

I just love the texture of oil on paper - more than saving money that’s a wonderful benefit. I remember some lovely pieces by Vuillard on paper I always think of. I think some people stretched sheets in art school but I can’t remember how it went.

I think that there are different methods for everyone. For me, the bean, which include the ribcage and the pelvis, did not work. The box method either. What worked for me was thinking about the ribcage as an egg. I learned anatomy later on, and having this simplification helped. It became less daunting to learn every single rib.

My life drawing teacher didn't want to teach us how to draw fat bodies because she vaguely mumbled about it being too "confusing" and "wrong", with implications it would spoil the rest of what was being taught about drawing "beautiful" bodies. It was a waste of time to her because why would we want to draw anything else besides the extremely limited standard of beauty that's forced on all of us? As a fat person, it was really humiliating and frustrating to be told my body was wrong. I love drawing chubby and fat people. We are so beautiful! ☺️🧡 Learning about the skeleton was STILL vital despite her nonsense. We just have extra padding. Don't be weak! Try harder! lol

I’m sorry to hear that. That’s a stupid idea. Art is life. Life consists of many different people of different shapes and sizes so to just hear that is infuriating. Know that her sentiment is not shared in the art world. I LOVE drawing people of different shapes, sizes and backgrounds!

She was just not the right teacher, you don't have to use her ideas for everything. Coz she clearly is not knowledgeable about what you want to draw. Go mimick art teachers who're accepting of fat bodies and draw it often.

When I took a figure drawing class as a student in my second semester as transfer student in the Spring 2010 semester at Georgia State University (GSU) Atlanta Campus in their art school, the teacher teaching the class was trying to figure out why as an autistic student I was the only one not being able to learn to draw the human figure using gesture drawing and she looked at my artwork and found out I draw in shapes and after that she stopped forcing me to gesture draw and instead let me draw the way I draw best which is in shapes and my figure drawing etc... got better even though I still could not focus that well in the figure drawing class because I kept having problems being able to process what the instructor (my name for college and university professors who mostly have no teaching degree and aren't required to have the same disability training that a public pre-k/k-12 education teacher is required to have here in the USA) in my art history class kept fast auditory lecture that was projected on the screen in front of the classroom and this information was not always in the required textbooks and/or required online readings for these required art history classes and I could never ever past their quizzes, tests, midterms and finals. I just need college and university art history instructors to stop being stuck in the best way to teach art history is to project different art works in front of the classroom and just speak fast about each art work to just go through as much information as possible in an art history class that just meets once or twice a week and doesn't work for all of their students. What gets me is GSU Atlanta Campus made their art students take 6+ art history classes even if they weren't art history majors that the other colleges and universities here in Georgia that offer art classes, has an art school or is mostly an art school like SCAD in Atlanta and Savannah are even though this college and university knows how to handle their autistic students better than GSU Atlanta campus does and the problem is it is beyond difficult to get into any of the SCAD campuses here in Georgia because they make you show your portfolio to them before they will decide to or not accept you and the other issue is they still run on the quarter system meaning the instructors of every class has to teach more in less time and they also expect their students to stay up all night working on their assignments which I cannot do at because of being on two anxiety medications for my generalized anxiety disorder that make it where I need to sleep at night.

So why not coat the copper with a water based coating then scratch it so you can see it without all the reflections and glare then wash it off after your image is done before printing?

When you're using the tone spatula, put the empty tone paper on top of your drawing, especially when you have small pieces of tone!!! This helps prevent the tone from moving/lifting and from unintentional scraping. Happy drawing!!

I think ive improved a bit at art there are spots of differences in skin tone for sonja that i didnt notice before but i am now. I think mostly spots of highlights and then the nose. I dont know if im imagining it but part of her nose close to the bottom sees a bit reddish or reddish brown and by the nostrils seems kinda yellow? Mustard yellow? Yellow ochre? Im still learning colors and color theory. Havent studied painting stuff yet.

I would never have thought to use a metallic for underpainting, but it makes perfect sense! The use of different media is inspired. Each brings something special to the table. I love how they enhance in their own way without detracting from the rest of the elements.

Lauryn I love watching you discuss limited palette work and color recipes - the timing was just perfect for this since I started to paint again after cataract surgery - coming out of years of color distortion I knew my first task would be to reclaim my relationship with colors.

But also it's okay if it looks different. I've watched Doodle date and Adam is color blind and his color choices it looks amazing. I love it. I've heard for making art when you do it with all sorts of colors what matters is values. So even if one is making a portrait with turquoise and like hot pink. That it's not the colors but how they get used.
