I am sitting up in bed tapping and clicking my feet together. No way to sit still listening to this very jazzy bluesy music. Wow the guitarist.

He was a true musician, never to be categorized as he could play any genre and many different instruments. He was a Sheriff also! I learned a lot from this unorthodox Master.

Great choice! He is a great all around musician. He's done some great shows with Roy Clark and other greats. You won't be disappointed if you go down this rabbit hole.

Nice reaction, Harri! Gatemouth is way under-appreciated for sure. If you really wanna get ants in your pants, though, you should check out Gate's version of the old Muddy Waters classic 'Got My Mojo Workin'. It's almost too funky to be legal!!

Gate is terrific. A blues icon. Texas baby. I saw him in Seattle at Jazz Alley. Seriously class act. Spanky guitar sounds from thumb and fingers. Love Gate. Love his music and style.

Wish there was more musicians like him. He never considred himself a blues man. he always said he was a musician. Although most of his stuff falls into the blues vein, he had such a sweet swing sold coupled with jazz and country his live shows were always one of a kind

Tell me, how can I give about 100 thumbs up? He played often in Durham. Harri would be disappointed because "Gatemouth" didn't play the instrument that gave him his stage name!!!! Good choice.

I was lucky enough to see Clarence open for the New Riders of the Purple Sage (check out their Panama Red sometime) in a small club one night in the 90's. He could make that guitar sing and moan. Thanks Harri!

@@Cynthia... it was a very prestigious place blues festival for a while there in the 80s and 90s, but unfortunately the promoters went broke because he got too ambitious. But, he did have some amazing experience. Ray Charles headlined one year, Johnny Winter also another year. Thank you for your kind words, Cynthia

Via Wikipedia ---"Honky Tonk" is an instrumental written by Billy Butler, Bill Doggett, Clifford Scott, and Shep Shepherd. Doggett recorded it as a two-part single in 1956. It became Doggett's signature piece and a standard recorded by many other performers."

Such a wonderful musician. Clarence played 3 instruments by the time he was 5. He had the great ability to pluck out magic from his guitar. Love watching him play. Great accompanying band with an amazing sax player. It's cooking alright Harri. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cynthia. Fab-u-lous!! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Great selection Cynthia! I love this. For some reason his guitar style reminds me of something I once watched Glen Campbell play. That aside, I just loved this and I knew Harri would find it as delightful as I do. Merry Christmas to my friend north of the border 🥰🎄🎁🎄

Clarence said he never uses a pick on a guitar and can make the guitar sound like any horn, and he has a very unusual plucking style.

I (a white woman) don't remember the exact year, but about 30 years ago he did a show in Atlanta. After the show, before they could get out of the city, his tour bus broke down. He and his band spent a few hours waiting for it to be repaired at the truck stop where I was the shoe shine stand contractor. I was ready for my dinner break when he asked for a boot shine. I asked if I could go get dinner first but he wasn't sure how long the repairs would take. So, I shined 2 pairs of his boots while we had a grand conversation about lots of things. He tipped well and afterwards we had dinner together in the restaurant, his treat. He talked about his family, showing off his daughter's pictures. He was so proud of her. He played several different instruments and every musical genre throughout his career. When I asked him what was his favorite style of music, his answer was "Whatever I'm playing at the moment". The man's hands were built for playing instruments. I've never seen such long fingers. A super talented, nice guy.

@@TheNoncritical1 If I had just said I shined shoes, you would most likely have stereotyped me as a black man. Am I right? That kind of social interaction, especially in the deep south 3 decades ago, is very uncommon. So yeah, in this case, it matters to me.

I used to smoke pot with Clarence on chime street next to LSU in Baton Rouge for two or three years back in the 90s. Never knew he was he was famous until I saw him on Austin city limits. He grew his own smoke by the way.never know who you will meet and get stoned with.
