On October 15, 2022, Shields faced off against Savannah Marshall at the O2 Arena in London, England, in a highly anticipated bout. The fight was for the undisputed middleweight world championship, and Shields emerged victorious, solidifying her position as one of the greatest female boxers of all time.
This win marked a significant milestone for Shields, as she became the undisputed female middleweight champion and one of only four boxers in history to hold all four major world titles in boxing-WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO-in two weight classes. Her impressive performance against Marshall showcased her exceptional skill, speed, and power, leaving no doubt about her dominance in the ring.
Prior to her fight against Marshall, Shields had already made headlines with her win against Marie-Eve Dicaire on March 5, 2021. In this bout, Shields retained her WBC and WBO super welterweight titles, claimed the IBF 154-pound belt, and won the vacant WBA light middleweight strap. This victory further cemented her status as a force to be reckoned with in the boxing world.
Shields' most recent win came on July 27, 2024, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI, where she faced Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse. In this fight, Shields won the WBC heavyweight title and the vacant WBO light heavyweight title, demonstrating her versatility and ability to excel in different weight classes.
In addition to her impressive wins in the ring, Shields made history by becoming the first woman to win the Best Boxer ESPY Award in 2023. This prestigious award recognizes excellence in boxing, and Shields' win marked a significant milestone for women's boxing.
