Why do people post these brief videos on a complex topic like mouthpiece selection? They are really not helpful, especially when the information is incorrect. Facing length refers to the distance between the mouthpiece tip and the point where the reed first contacts the rails of the mouthpiece. It does not include the flat table where the reed is held by the ligature.

Mathers David You are absolutely correct. When he was describing the facing, he included the table as well. Thank you for your comment.

I’m planning on playing clarinet in my jazz band for school and need a jazz mouthpiece and I don’t know what to get. I’m debating on 5jb or an m13 lyre.

Would you recommend a d'addario classic x5 mouthpiece?

Katsucatgamer did you ever get a chance to try out some different mouthpieces?
@bethany88017 жыл бұрын
Yes. I did. My professor showed me some.

Katsucatgamer Great. I was hoping you got a chance to try a variety before you settled on one. Which one did you choose?

Of course you play on a Backun mouthpiece Mr. Backun t-shirt.

'Much more air pressure is required to get a sound on an open mouthpiece'. Really? Since when? Maybe if you are trying to use the same strength reed on everyone rather than matching an appropriate reed to each. Please don't spread misinformation!

Why didn't you explain or demonstrate the M13 and 5RV ?

Why would you start on a Yamaha 4C when much better choices are available for beginners?

whoitisnot it's good for someone who wants something quality for a good price
@whoitisnot6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, not really. It's a step up from the junk that probably comes with a rental but it's far from being the best value. For the same price or literally a dollar or two more you can do much better.
@nirvana24956 жыл бұрын
whoitisnot well what could you recommend? I'm in the 8th grade in the honors band and I've been looking into mouth pieces but I need one for a good price
@whoitisnot6 жыл бұрын
The Fobes Debut is what most expert clarinet teachers would suggest. I think in terms of value (quality/price), it's probably the best mouthpiece I've ever played. Even though my $350 custom job by one of the top craftsmen in the world plays much better, the Debut is the best bang for the buck. Do your own research, and I think you'll be pleased with the results. I'm a pro with a large studio of private students.

whoitisnot thank you... do you have any recommendations on ligatures? I'm not sure if I should get a leather one or just a regular one... my teacher said a leather one would produce a warmer sound but I'm not sure
