The owner of this forklift couldn't get it running after it sat for a few years so he bought a new unit. He offered it to a scrapper friend of mine who said if I can get it running and sell it, he'd give me the 6v53 engine from The Chevy C70.

I'm sure you have heard of a 8-71 or 6-71 blower. Those originally came off Detroit diesel 8v71's and so on. The hot rodders of the past modified them to fit on V8 gas engines. Also the architecture of the two stroke Detroit diesels is that they can't draw in an air charge without some sort of forced induction. That's why Detroit labeled their engines that only had blowers as natural aspirated and an engine with a turbo and blower as forced induction. Detroit diesel engines also share the same architecture as EMD locomotive engines that are also two stroke, EMD was once part of GM.

6V53 sounds good. If you can hepl it, try not to the emergency shut down, especially at rpm. It can suck the seals out of the supercharger. Then she is an oil user and possibly wants to run on her own oil. Big difference between a stuck rack and running away on oil! Loved the video.

@NoNonsenseKnowHow I know this is real old Chris, but I just have to let you know, you can't use starting fluid on a propane engine. Propane when present with starting fluid will not fire since the mixture is so rich that even with good spark it won't ignite. So on a propane motor you have to nail down all the details first like you saw here. Fix the leaks, clean the plugs, ensure the solenoid is opening ( yeah removing it works too! ). Wala the motor jumps to life! Low compression on a propane motor is almost a non-issue.

Been a while since I visited your channel. I am the seventy two year old ex mechanic who ain't so bad to be around should you have to visit grandpa at the nursing home age people. I built those old detroits an the best thing they did was make a lot of noise. I did do a twin turbo on one with marine one ten injectors, turned it to three thousand rpm's and found it would scream in a old truck it was in, by the way... this was a true twin rear drive rear ends five ton truck with a five speed transmission and a four speed brownie, (a auxiliary transmission that doesn't make those shifts so far apart, real progressive power to the ground. Had a twenty four foot dump flatbed with siderack's so it could take a lot of loose material and go with it. I turned the governor down to twenty five hundred rpm's and gave it a job.,.. I forget just how much weight we would put on it but six cords of wet firewood that needed to season.... point is, it kept up on the highway. It did sixty five to seventy miles an hour on ten hundred twenty tires and with the twin stacks (chrome) rolling coal, it would set the sky on fire at night, the tops of the pipes were blue for about a third of the way from the top... and when that jake brake came on, everyone wanted to drive it. Now I see a cummins power dodge in your daily so I just don't know if its a mopar thing for you or the love of a cummins engine. There is a guy back in Kansas, Silas, a white guy about thirtyish in age, never really done much mechanically but he and his dad have scrap yards... price of steel is coming down a little so if you match scrap price and a few nickels more with a good story line could pick out a nice looking not all rusted out truck from the forties or fifties, sixties.... what ever twists your crank besides that blond you were seen with in this video.. (damn she is hotter than a stolen three dollar pistol) I don't know about you but a room full of mirrors, some fun cream, a few drinks to get her in the crazy mood.. I think you get the point. I may be old, I sure as hell ain't dead! Getting back to my dream or maybe even yours was I able to get you to try this, trucks of that age are most all the same except the cab of choice. That fellow I mentioned with the scrap yard, his channel is "Adventures made from scratch". He has some sweet looking forty six model chevy trucks in the two ton (1 1/2 ton) range rigs... also a few really decent fords in the fifties and sixties that could go patina look so easy or paint if you wish. Clean the outside of that detroit, fix the shift top on that five speed, chrome the valve covers as that is what people see first. Hell, get to the point, V6 engines just talk twin exhaust and with the right mufflers so it still talks a little without taking a eardrum. I guess you could put a set of grass burners under it but I just loved stacks with chrome an some guards to keep from someone burning themself on the pipes. As far as that goes, I should absolutely not have to tell you what looks great as you won't be me but just look at some of those truck shows where from a few pickups an more mid size ( C60 and bigger) trucks. What is the most common now is a patina finish, but damn, the gauge panel an interiors are just wild. They go from a road sign patched to full decore inside including their choice in shift levers. Oh to be young for even a few months. Look, when I turned thirty, I went from chicken plucking poor to being a millionaire a few times over and no such looking back. My cheating wife looked at our joint bank account and picked herself a broke dick worthless piece of crap boyfriend and then said she was tired of being used for a c^^bucket! She wanted a divorce! (she has been married seven times) plus shack ups since our divorce an even begged me to take her back. Making money is easy at your age. I can make money but I just walk through it like a rain bucket. I have never remarried as they just don't like guys like me who work from barely see to can't see again. Well there is my book length comment again, I am old and just love to talk about mechanical stuff plus hot chicks so if you had the courage to read this, I applaud you... so thank you for the memory lane for a few minutes

Seriously? What could I possibly suggest that has been more random and cool than what you have "will-it-start(ed)" lately? After this forklift, all I could think of is that the other dudes who wrenched on this saw you get it started and just had to eat crow. I think a cool contest would be to have your subscribers call out a ride that you could marry to that monster of a diesel. I can't think of one right now, but it would have to be something worthy of all that torque. Thoroughly enjoyed this video!
