Shimla witnessed chaotic scenes on Wednesday as locals clashed with police during a protest march over alleged illegal construction inside a mosque complex in the city.
Visuals from Shimla showed protesters toppling police barricades and security personnel resorting to lathicharge and water cannons to control the crowd. The protesters were heard chanting slogans such as "Himachal Ne Thaana Hai, Devbhoomi Ko Bachana Hai" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai."

The case was filed in 2010 and 45 hearings have been held so far. In between, the BJP ruled the state for 5 years as well. If the construction was being done on illegal property, why couldn't successive governments get at least a stay order. As long as BJP was in power, there were no protests. Now that they are in the opposition, they are inciting the crowds.
