this video is a demonstration of the Alberta Airbrake procedure done in real time, any driver with a "Q" endorsement and a class 1 license should know how to do this inspection as part of their Pre trip.

Great video, John! Clear, concise, with practical explanations for why each step is required. I just watched your air system inspection video, and subscribed. These videos should be mandatory viewing every few months for drivers, to help keep us from getting sloppy. Great job, thanks for helping keep us safe!

Man thanks SO much for this. As a chick whose gone from hospital to this work, this has helped me so much. Teaching with a clear voice & easy steps is such a relief. The school I'm at I struggle so fkn hard cus there's no a-c, it's a f g b c, a b e d c, driving me crazy. I cant learn a million diff steps and glue em together in order at the end. Struggling to understand even the simplest sentences from instructors 🥺🥺🥺 Cramming hard on youtube for my test next week I'm horribly unprepared for. Thnk u dearly.

i got my Class 1a here in Regina 5 yrs . ago, could not find anything, fast fwd now, i am training as a school bus operator but ill see what happens because i dont think i met the employers needs because the job is based on time picking up kids and dropping off, i have some little issues manuevering the bus and sometimes i drive like how i drive in a Class 5, and they say im too safe!! ill see what happen tommorrow but i am looking for new opportunity and might take a truck driving job if i can find one doing short haul and i get home at the end of the day, but im really thankful also of my School bus driving training, i got experience to drive a large vehicle in city and highway..
@Roddzilla712 жыл бұрын
@@bigryanm7083 i also did the school bus driving thing last spring. Did it to supplement my income while I was working out of my garage. I was just a spare driver, and I didn't stick with it very long because of the very poor pay and being that I live rurally, the driving times took to much time out of my day. I still can't believe how crappy the money was to haul peoples most valuable possessions around. Sad that truckers can make more hauling manure.
@bigryanm70832 жыл бұрын
@@Roddzilla71 as of right now im typing this, im waiting wether the school bus company is gonna call me to continue training but i did not receive any, because the problem in my training was, i get pissed off when the trainor critisize me the tone of his voice, and also he’s pissed off at me probably because im hard to teach probably, if that ever the case im gonna look for a regular job for a while like walmart or lowes type of work and then when my dad says i can do long haul, then im gonna look for long haul driver work, i really love driving, so yep..

Thanks for this video John, doing my practical in about an hour. Question though,......at 2:40 when checking the protection system, you mention having a low air warning come on by 60 psi or above,.............your truck didn't indicate that on the dash or audibly, just the red button popped, am I missing something here?
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn96586 ай бұрын
It did display an audible and visual, the visual indicator is the red circle with the three tabs around it. :)

Great video John. I have a small question, with newer trucks that charge first the secondary tank and the primary starting to charge only after secondary has reached 100 psi, is it the same procedure? I have been told it changes to 60 to 100 psi
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn96583 күн бұрын
Yes same procedure, Just remember... Start timing when the first air service tank gauge reaches 50 p.s.i and stop timing when the other service tank gauge reaches 90 p.s.i
@foxcrow17652 ай бұрын
With the gauge measuring PSI in 25PSI increments, how do you know if you lose 6 psi over two minutes? That must be an awfully small move on the gauge. Is it a case of, "if there is a problem you will know for sure?" Or, is it if you see any noticeable lose of pressure, then you need to go find where the leak is coming form? Or both sometimes? Glad I found your channel.
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn96582 ай бұрын
Yes the psi loss is pretty much no more than the width of the needle on the guage. Because the airbrake system is a sealed system, there should be no unregulated air leaks. Hope this helps you out and thanks for watching 👀 😊
so is the first part video involved in the course or is the acutally steps required to be demonstrated just in part 2?
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn96582 жыл бұрын
You would have to demonstrate the run up and fan down procedure as part of your in cab inspection on a provincial road test, the actual components would be covered during the pretrip inspection.

What happens if I disconnect my red air line and all the air pressure goes down and the valve does not jump, it means that my tractor protection valve is wrong?
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn9658 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question :) When your Trailer air supply valve is pushed in, and you disconnect the supply line (Red), your trailer spring brakes should apply immediately. The trailer air supply valve on the dash has to pop out between 40-60 psi. Now it is normal for most newer trucks that it pops at a high pressure, but it cannot pop any lower than 40 psi. if it does pop at 40 or less, you may have a bad tractor protection valve or more than likely a worn-out dash valve.

I noticed that as well, it was a minor vacuum leak from the heater control actuator. but it would contribute to the maximum air loss we are allowed during the air system leak check. Thanks for your comment and watching :)

Sorry, but that's what's required here in Alberta, But on the bright side... Think how much stronger your Right leg will be. Little tip for you, Next time you do the Air System Leak Test, Push the pedal with your Heel, not the ball of your foot, It takes a lot of strain off your leg. :)
