THANK YOU JOHN - My company really cheaped out getting me training hours (8) for getting my class 3. On top of that I had a bad trainer 2 times that hates his job. This video has been very helpful.

Thanks so much for posting this. A class 2 isn't even worth getting anymore. Definitely helpful knowledge for the class 3

Gonna watch this 300x in a row before my test. Thanks man!

Lol, I think 300 times is a bit excessive... repetition is the key to memorization. It will stick after some practice, good luck on your test 😀

Wow 38 seconds for the compressor build up test! I managed to make it to the registry right after I went through the course and do the test and pass. Getting class 3 next! When they did this tho we had a trailer attached so we had to make sure both buttons were pulled out, get out and disconnect the glad hands, then get back in and press the red button in and let it leak out the trailer supply line till the button pops out. Then get out and hook back up the lines.

Anybody getting their Airbrake endorsement has to learn the Class 1 curriculum. With a Class 2 or 3 Vehicle it is still the same Airbrake procedure, we just omit the trailer checks and the Trailer Air Supply Valve. Congratulations on passing your knowledge test :)

if the valve doesn't pop at 20 psi (ours pops closer to 10 psi), does that mean the test is failed? my mechanic keeps assuring me that I'm good to go, but my memory is telling me that we shouldn't be driving it.
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn9658 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, Pete, Next time you do the procedure, make sure you pump the brake pedal hard and fast, when the yellow pops look at both primary and secondary gauges and go by the highest pressure. if one of the reservoirs is over 20 psi, you're ok, if not, then the mechanic should start by replacing your dash valve's as they may be worn out. Good job on knowing your pressures and procedures though. Awesome job!

is that all i need to know to pass the brake test? I am learning about that stuff just now
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn96586 ай бұрын
There is alot more in regards to the actual system, but yes, before challenging the knowledge test it is wise to remember the procedure and pressures as it is also required to be demonstrated on a Provincial road test. And included on a driver's daily pre trip. Hope this helps you out. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂

Do we have written procedure to follow during our inspections or do they expect you to memorize all this?

Quick question, I go for my test tomorrow. I do the 2 minute leak test and it sounds like purging from one end of the truck to the other almost like a “pshhh” “pshhh” sound than it stops at around 90psi. Drops about 30psi total than it levels out. Is this normal? Many mechanics have said it’s normal but I’m not 100% fixated that it is. Please respond as soon as possible
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn96584 ай бұрын
It sounds like purging from the ABS modules. when you turn the engine off and put the key into the on position, Wait for the clicking of the modules to stop, then perform the leak check. that should fix your issue. :)

Hello sir I have one question that I have DZ license in Ontario and I am moving to alberta now so which license i will get there?
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn9658 Жыл бұрын
More than likely you will receive a Class 3 license with a Q endorsement. this would allow you to operate a single up to a tridem axle air brake equipped commercial vehicle. Thanks for your question, Gurwinder :)

How many classes are there apart from 3 & 2?
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn9658 Жыл бұрын
Class 3 and 2 are the same procedure. Class 1 procedure includes the trailer.

Great video John! Doesn't the cut-in pressure have to be 20-25 PSI less than the cut out pressure? Obviously the compressor is working but this is just what my Alberta Air Brake Manual says.
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn96582 жыл бұрын
Regulation wise, yes. It depends how the governor is set up on your unit. Some will cut in above that 20-25 range.

@benburrows4826 Жыл бұрын
Yes, and if you forget to set the brake after it's an automatic fail.
@protruckdrivertipswithjohn9658 Жыл бұрын
Yes, this verbal explanation and procedure is tested on the provincial road test. Usually takes place after the in cab inspection portion. This is also required on a company driver evaluation and most pre-hires
