For a period of time towards the last part of the 20th century, 'Silverlink' were having trouble maintaining a reliable service on the "Marston Vale" line between Bletchley and Bedford using first generation DMUs. As a stopgap to the introduction of "Sprinters", Silverlink had decided therefore to re-introduce loco hauled trains to the line. This came in the form of two coach trains 'top and tailed' will class 31s. This proved a delight to enthusiasts that were seeing the loss of loco-hauled services far and wide as the new generation of DMUs took hold. Naturally this development too caught the eye of our camerman who went out to record these trains in action on the branch.
