It is good to see that they will find a new use in Mexico granted even though the UK train operating companies may not want them to bear in mind they are technically speaking still sound structure wise and mechanical speaking still perfectly serviceable locomotives and even the MK3 stock is serviceable frankly speaking too good to consign to scrap 😊

From what I’ve heard Mexico bought 7 train sets one set is already being tested in Mexico with a different paint job which looks pretty good I guess these are part of that deal which we’re supposed to be sent at different dates and not all at once great video cheers

@@MerlinHuffy We traveled from Penzance to Exeter St Davids just after Easter I was living in Devon when they first came in At least then they had a trolley We'd taken the Sleeper down to Penzance after traveling on the Cally Sleeper to Fort William the previous summer Both are an experience but the Deerstalker and breakfast over Rannoch Moor is just amazing

I wonder why they haven't tried them on the Waterloo - Exeter St David's route with consideration of replacing the class159's. They did clearance tests on the Class 43's in the early 1990's with this is mind but went with the 159's. They could run them as 2+6 units, however there would be problems on the Salisbury - Waterloo trains in the mornings and evenings, when they run 9 car trains.

**UPDATE** 43009, 43016 were loaded onto a ship at Gt Yarmouth Outer Harbour on 22nd October 2023. The ships name is the "Panthera J".

There are 114 HTS CLASS 43 .. 5 exported to Mexico ( btw max speed for them there is just 60mph ) … 40 HST are stored at the moment 16 have been preserved and 24 scrapped

Well the first ship that took the first badge of 125s to Mexico was the BBC Arkhangelsk but that ship is currently in Chile South America so I doubt that ship will be the same one to deliver the rest of the trains

Unless they've been or are going to be modified they will surely struggle in the Mexican hotter climate. The XPT power cars were modified from day one to have double the engine cooling than the Class 43 they are based on to suit the Australian heat.

They should utilise these brilliant sets into four or five car trains for beautifully scenic routes such as the Heart of Wales Line and the Cambrian Coast Line in Wales plus other jewels in the UK railways crown just as they have done in Scotland! X

I think it’s great Mexico has them, they will rot here get graffiti on them, weeds cover them, then rust then booths scrapyard after being cut up as they will have a massive price tag on them all the way to scrap so I can’t buy one
I have heard from a friend who was in Mexico recently, that these will be used to go between archeological sites in the Mayan ruins. If that's the case, at least they will have a decent purpose. Maybe we should all chip in and share-buy one?! Thanks for commenting!
