Quite funny looking how Reading station and trackwork were compared to now, not to mention electrification

Use to go to Southampton and Micheldever from ripple Lane when I was a driver in the 70s 80s sometime via reading and sometimes via staines on 37s and 47s.

This is summer 1996. Mainline blue 60 on the Furzebrook LPG tanks, and at Basingstoke is one of the 2 unbranded European/Revised Rf two-tone grey liveried 47's (either 47150, painted 10.95. Or 47287, painted 11.95) held in the loop with the Marchwood MOD vans. . . An ex girlfriend of mine probably drove that ICXC 47 a few times 😀🤐🤕🤩

A very good video! Could we have the date of when each vidoe was filmed pinned? That would be great if this couldf be done.

You've turned off comments on your two Glasgow South Western Mainline videos. So I will ask here. I don't suppose you have the stretch from Glasgow to Kilmarnock? Thank you.

Is this around 1988?

I was going to ask that too. I would guess so, as most of the others are 86-89

1996 according to the comments for the first part from Poole - Southampton. It’s definitely 90’s as there was an HST in Intercity Swallow livery. Also the presence of so many Wessex Electrics means it’s got to be later than 1988 as that’s when they were first introduced and wouldn’t have been as common initially. Finally, the class 159 north of Micheldever confirms it HAS to be in the 90’s as they weren’t in service until 1993.

It was produced in 1996 by Branch Line Videos on VHS as I have this and is like for like identical so would be 47849 working the 1E32 0900 Poole - York if this is what I believe to be the cab ride Branch Line Videos brought out then that's now digitized

@@chunkyboyjames Good spots. Other dating clues are : * Shawford - Just before the slow up ends, there is an old private metal footbridge. That was removed quite a while ago. I remember gong over that when I was young. Aldo drivers told me that their supervisors used t carry out speed checks from that bride. * Winchester - Approaching Winchester as you come to the last bend before the straight to the station. There used to be a level crossing for pway staff and local farmers. That was removed quite a while back. * Shawford - After Shawford station, the new tunnel which carries the M3 over the railway. * Southampton Airport - Between the airport and Eastleigh. I don't know when it was built but they added the slow up track. * Winchester - The barrow crossing has been removed. * Winchester - 11:38 in the video - the fields on the left is now a huge housing estate * As you mentioned the other things and definitely Network Southeast era. I don't think I saw the earlier part of the journey. I will have to go and find it.
