I love the "WHOOOOSH!!"as these go through at speed.

I'll take the lot! In all seriousness though, I definitely need this sound on my layout. Brings back so many good memories of spotting up and down the ECML. You just can't beat the horns on these!

Since I made this video I've also added the new door-opening beeper sounds as an option.

Sounds superb Bif. What speaker set up have you used?

Thanks. The 91 has an EM2 built into the underframe with the motor sitting on top. The motor and gear towers are from a Heljan Hymek from memory. The bogie wheelbase is about 2mm too short so each axlebox is about 1mm from where it should be, but good running is more important to me. I also have an Inter City liveried 91 with the latest Hornby motor and that runs quite good once it's warmed up. The DVT has an Alan Butcher bass reflex built into the underframe. The two sound projects are matched so the common sounds (handbrakes, brake applications, door opening sounds etc) occur at the same time, and all of the directional sounds (horns, guard to driver beeper etc) reverse automatically when you change ends.

Does this latest decoder have the sound of the rheostatic braking of this locomotive?
@legomanbiffo7 жыл бұрын
As far as we know there is no appreciable or characteristic sound associated with the rheostatic brakes on 91's. Certainly nothing like the very distinctive ones in the 86 & 87. We think the pitch of the traction motor blowers may change but that's all. I've never knowingly heard them in many years of listening to these locos.

legomanbiffo Having travelled behind class 91s for years and listened to them at various locations at the lineside there is a distinctive sound coming from them when in rheostatic braking mode. This sound is different to the sound of them starting then accelerating to speed. I suspect there are a set of fans similar to the ones on the dynamic brakes of American diesel locos.

I'll pay closer attention next time I'm behind one.
