I took a class at the local quilt shop and have yet to finish my quilt. Thats been over a year. The class cost me 35.00 plus the pattern price and all the fabric and there was no class. It was a room with people in it that knew what they were doing and the quilt shop owner was selling a sewing machine to someone at the time. To me a class is everyone hands on with help. No help. We were told to make the top at home and cut the petals. Well the petals were fine but the top to me didnt look good. I needed Direction and I needed suggestions. Something to make me encouraged and make me WANT to make this quilt that so beautifully hung in the store. So I left after about an hour embarressed that everyone else seemed to know each other and I was in a "CLICK" store. So I hated the top. and here it gets kind of amusing. I went looking for a solid piece of fabric to use with some color but mostly writing and designs. I saw a fabric that I thought OMG This will work. A little black and white with some wisps of color. I bought 4 yds in case I wanted to do more. Cost me around 32.00. When I got it home, layed it out, I looked more closely at the fabric. DUH. I had gotten so excited that I didnt do that. Surely what could go wrong. Wellllllllllll The fabric had old timely advertisements for toilets... it would be good for a shower curtain but heck no not on a bed. HA HA. Joke on me. A year went by and in my drawer in my sewing room it sits. I finally found a fabric for the top. This quilt is going to be made. I should have just ordered it as I have spent well over 150 in fabric / fake classes and time. its just a matter of pulling it out of the drawer and seeing the beauty of what it can be and not what could have been with the inconsiderate class quilt store. I’m so sorry you had that experience with a quilt store. I am delighted that you are determined to finish your quilt. That toilet fabric sounds amusing. I can’t wait to see your finished quilt and see what you have accomplished with my pattern. Thanks for stopping by the channel.

I have all my background squares cut out but did not starch or use terial magic. Should I do that before sewing the background squares together or can I spray a section of squares that is sewn together ? I did use steam-a-seam 2 for my petals.

You can starch your quilt top after assembly. But if you are using steam a seam 2 you shouldn’t need to use Terial magic on your top also. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

So you are saying if I used Steam A Seam on the leaves I don't need to do anything to the back ground fabric. I am a little confused. I thought you said in the video that the background fabric needs starch/terial magic? Lynda

You need something to stabilize the fabric so that you can stitch around the curve of the petals without puckering. Steam a seam acts like a stabilizer as does Terial Magic. If you were not using steam a seam you would need to stabilize both the background and the petals before stitching. Because you are using steam a seam you don’t need as much stabilizer on the background. Starching the background will help to keep everything neat though. Also keep in mind that Terial magic is water soluble and steam a seam needs steam in the iron to stick. So by using both you would steam out the stiffness from the Terial magic. Just don’t want you to waste any money on product if you don’t need it.
