Back in the Dot.com Bubble years of crazy spending to do the unthinkables... I was approached by a group sparing no expense that asked to see "all of Alaska in one day". Tall order and maybe never unattainable. They wanted mountain with glacier landscapes, flightseeing, world-class fishing, bear-viewing, and float trip having whitewater rafting to the utmost. I had to figure out how to make a day trip that would be as much like a multi-day. Hence, this became my first commercial running of the Newhalen Gorge and the famed Petrove falls. This was of course well before google earth and much of any data to run this segment from Upper-Landing to Iliamna. Fast & Cold book's write up was all wrong and I had known Embick (tho skilled and venturous) to be into himself a bit much, and wrong too many times with inconsistencies. What I decided best was to study satellite integrated enhanced ground penetrating radar images that revealed the optimal route-finding thru Petrov Falls. The rest was AK river history in an AIRE 156 E-Series self-bailing raft. Oarsman center oar-rigged 3-bay-frame, 5 customers, 1-day sunny day big-water run. My only rules were center of gravity low, customers hanging on with both hands to frame, no additional personal gear, and no picture taking thru the more demanding whitewater sections. On a single boat trip... I did not want anybody distracted, swept out of the raft, or ejected. I felt very good about safe 9 out of 10 for perfect runs. Whitewater was truly awesome. Rate, features, and flow incredible. Super beautiful big water with crazy bubble trails. A limit of fish were caught by all on the trip. Brown Bears, and a smoked salmon shore lunch in the river right eddy two canyons below Petrov. We flew back to Anchorage that evening.

Since you're a raft guide, how much of that story is bologna? Jk

@@hankslywetfoot7817 These guys are full-on legit... none of the story line is BS. They do a great job filming in classifications, conditions, and remote destinations that are challenging. Footage is spot on to my experience in several (just about all) of the location settings. For an example @5:58-6:00 minute mark on this video is my route thru Petrov Falls. I do not know these guys... however, from friends of mine that know Brenden, all would relate... really good, easy going and genuine guy!
